On 16 November, former White House strategist Steve Bannon is speaking at Oxford University’s elite debating club – the Oxford Union. Bannon is also a founder of the far-right Breitbart News.

But Bannon’s presence wasn’t warmly received by the public in Oxford. In fact, several hundred people protested the talk, with organisers accusing Bannon of being a “white nationalist” and a “leading figure of the alt-right”. They argued that the protest would “send a clear message to Bannon that he and his views are unwelcome”.

The protest organisers’ criticisms of Bannon are in response to his frequent racist, sexist and homophobic statements. They are also a response to Bannon’s support for far-right figures and political parties, including Donald Trump, Viktor Orban and the AfD.
Mass opposition

Opposition to Bannon’s talk was widespread. A coalition of people came together to oppose the talk, from across political divides. The Canary spoke to several protesters to understand why they were demonstrating against Bannon.

One of the groups behind the protest was the Oxford University Students’ Union LGBTQ+ Campaign. Their co-chair told The Canary:

We strongly condemn the Union for their decision to invite a known misogynist, homophobe, antisemite, and racist.

The Oxford University Labour Club was also one of the groups that coordinated the protest. Speaking to The Canary, Charlotte Austin, co-chair of the club, said:

We’re demonstrating today because the vile racist, misogynist and homophobe Steve Bannon has no place in our beautiful and diverse city. This is not a free speech issue, it is about giving a free publicity and a veneer of respectability to fascists. Lots of Labour members will be out today because we are deeply concerned about the rise of fascism and are an anti-racist party.

Someone painted a swastika on a community centre just days after Steve Bannon spoke at Oxford University

On Friday 16 November, the Oxford Union debating society at Oxford University hosted former Trump strategist Steve Bannon.

Just days later, someone painted a swastika on a community centre in Oxford. While there is no evidence linking the two events, it has led people to accuse the Union of “normalising fascism”.

www.thecanary.co/trending/2018/11/20/someone-painted-a-swastika-on-a-community-centre-just-days-after-steve-bannon-spoke-at-oxford-university/

Take this article with a pinch of salt progressives have on at least two separate occasions been caught painting swastikas on university grounds in order to portray populist speakers as causing a rise in racial violence on campus
cant find the articles atm but I know they have done this in the past they go to the university staff and complain and act all offended only to later be caught thanks to CCTV footage
like I have said before they are more than willing to use the tools of evil for there greater good.

allso nationalist is very diferent from a fascist youd think these oxford educated student would know better

Actualy ive come to understand that progresives like these have went so far left that everyone apears on the right to them thats why even tho my political compass test puts me as a libertarian lefty my oposing views to these pepole puts me in the alt right camp from there perspective
the far right/ alt right is just a boogy man for the most part, words used to attempt to dehumanise there opposition and if you ever see the type of names these people call there oponents in the news it should triger some alarm bells and give you cause to investigate.

by calling someone a nazi or a fascist sexist homophobes or any of the other colourful slurs these people throw around they are simply virtue signalling trying to claim the moral high ground coz if your a nazi then that must make them the good guy right ??
but lets be honest they only resort to name calling coz there arguments are so flimsy in the first place by name calling like this they automatically lose the argument in my eyes its a sign there argument is so weak and highlights how they are unable to carry on an intellectual discussion without name calling.

Agree with what Brendan O'neil said in one of your previous videos Finnster. Classed by some as far right now but a few yrs back you would of been classed as being on the left.
