Just read this on the Scottish Unemployed Workers.website:
scottishunemployedworkers.net/2018/06/11/unpaid-work-for-the-jobcentre-anyone/

This is truly shocking for anyone over 60 (although I would argue that being in your 50`s) earns the same treatment. It mentiones UJM but we know this is ending soon. This poor lady has obviously not found a site like ours to guide her. How many other souls out there are being treated like this I wonder?

At least she eventually found help but that was a nightmare scenario and, sadly, not untypical of what is happening daily.
Flotsam: People who are considered to be worthless or to have been rejected by society.

If that were me, I would do unpaid work at the jobcentre and secretly sabotage the whole operation, and leak important documents to the press and record staff-room conversations and put them on Youtube etc.

The opportunities for mayhem would be endless. I might even volunteer of my own accord. God knows what damage i could do.

It's also an opportunity to find some "dirt" on staff and threaten to make it public if they don't let me amend my cc to one that is acceptable to me.

My own view on this is that when people hit 60 and can`t claim their pension until 65/67 (being pushed back all the time), they should be given relaxed sign on`s monthly or two monthly and allowed to either have the choice to continue looking for work under a more relaxed line of reason, or be allowed to claim £73.10p a week JSA or UC and allowed to choose their own action plan, be that volunteering or attending classes or being able to focus more on their own health problems if they have any, such as social prescribing by a GP or other health professional. Forcing people over 60 to the same compliance regime as a 20 year old is just idiotic. Especially, like the woman in the link, who has health concerns that don`t seem to have been given consideration, or she doesn`t realise that her CC can be tailored to take those into account and reduce her conditionality on production of fit notes from her GP stating that she cannot do X or Y or be expected to work for more than 16 hours a week.

Will we ever see the day this is applied?

Would you put these staff-room conversations on Youtube whilst still working there? Now that would be just plain daft! :silly:

I don't think it'd be as much fun as you imagine it to be. Odds are you'll be monitored very closely and don't forget they have CCTV cameras everywhere. I also think it's highly unlikely you'll have access to important documents...

A work coach offered me a training opportunity at a job centre a few years ago and I showed some interest in it. I asked if it would be my OWN jobcentre and she said no, you would be at X jobcentre. She put my name forward for an interview and I never heard a peep. Part of me was pleased...but the other half wondered why they didn`t even contact me?

I looked up these jobcentre placement and people who had done their work experience left some feedback and most of them were uni graduates or people with grades. Then I realised why they didn`t bother with me!

This is way to human for them to even consider unfortunately. It's a shame that people of 60 plus are put through this. soon the retirement age will go up to 80 no doubt. till we all drop dead from overwork.

It will only get worse under this government. In our jobcentre there are always frail, elderly people sitting at the computers looking for jobs that don't exisit.
I'm a waspi woman too and know how difficult it is for women (and men) of our age to find jobs.
It is soul destroying, but we mustn't let these nonentities at the jobcentre intimidate us.
We've worked hard all our lives and have a wealth of life experience.
I play along with their crap with a polite smile, and with the support of forums, such as this one, I know I can get good advice if they overstep the mark.
We need to hold our heads up and not let them make us feel ashamed of being unemployed through no fault of our own.
At least we're not arseholes sitting behind a desk taking money to bully people!

Agree Dizzy. WE are the smiling assassins! I truly feel for Waspi women and the position they were placed in for nothing more than a money saving excersize, yet government can always find millions extra for other projects. It is soul destroying to see older people still using the job centre even when they are months away from claiming their state pension. I`ve even heard of people only a few WEEKS away from drawing their pension and being asked to attend an ESA assessment!
