In other words, will be still have to put up with sanction threats, endless job searching and workfare mandates etc.

I know Labour talk the talk, but will they do anything?

The manifesto that the Labour Party stood on at the last election spells out their intended policies on social security benefits.

You can read it for yourself. It’s in the second part of Chapter 5 under the heading:

DIGNITY FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT WORK
labour.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/labour-manifesto-2017.pdf

Would you vote for that?
Did you vote for that?
Would you fight for that?
Did you fight for that?

If you join the Party, YOU will be LABOUR

Taken from the Labour pledge:
We will change the culture of the social security system, from one that demonises people not in work to one that is supportive and enabling. As well as scrapping the Conservatives’ punitive sanctions regime, we will change how obcentre Plus staff are performance-managed.

I`m wondering why people didn`t vote for this when May called the last election. Maybe there weren't enough people on Universal Credit at the time to justify it, or the Tory faithful kept repeating their slogan over and over again that they were the `strong and stable` government and people were so brainwashed by it that they believed it? I think too that pensioners need to wake up to reality and see the need for change to Labour again under Corbyn. Although I think Brexit is our only chance of gaining ground on the Conservatives now because they seem to always hold the upper hand when voting times comes around. Not too sure why give the state the country is in, shops closing in droves and lies about unemployment statistics.

I've lost faith in the electorate. Even when they are suffering they still vote the Tories in. Inexplicable.

After Years of this "Worst Ever" Government since Thatcher, If Labour Win they will have to spend Billions to get Britain "Back On Track"
Public Housing, a almost totally Destroyed NHS, A School System in Chaos, Overcrowded and Highly Dangerous Prisons, A Road System falling to bits,
All Benefits & Pensions in Desperate need of Increasing to Livabal amounts.
IF Brexit goes ahead the Bill is going to be Horendus;
Where will a Labour Government Start, Scrapping Sanctions will both Save Money and help hundreads of thousands on "The Edge of Death".
Other reforms will take time; It might take Decades for us to recover, If we ever Do.

It`s worrying Paul. Those at the bottom of the pile will always suffer the most and because we get `money for nothing` as they like to put it, we will always feel like the underdog as long as these prats spawn their rhetoric in the press and lie about true statistics. The unemployment figures are always down, yet people are losing their jobs in droves due to the high street crashing and many other employers looking for sheep to work in low paid, poor outlook jobs. yet we are all supposed to be happy and think everything is wonderful.

Even Thatcher wasn't as bad as this lot. I was on the dole then and never had to do job searches, or be under threat of sanction etc. I just signed on every fortnight in 5 minutes flat.

Same here archangel. Thatcher was the seed that spawned the beginning of the end of welfare being slightly more compassionate.

Because those who stood to lose a fortune if labour applied the brakes to the privatisation gravy train kept screeching “uncosted” over attempts at sensible debate, despite there being a fairly in depth costing sheet at the back of the manifesto, when you pointed this fact out they’d then switch to “yeah but magic money tree,” and “you won’t be able to raise the funds” the last in particular annoyed me because it’s the argument they should have started with, you can believe that the stated funds source won’t generate the claimed revenue as much as you like but
A. You can only say it’s your belief you can’t present it as fact until it has been at least tried
B.To say it was uncosted was simply not true it was an easily digested and repeated lie which fooled the stupid in droves

unwashed wrote: “yeah but magic money tree,”

Exactly. And people are so easily fooled into then thinking `yes, and taxes would go way up and the economy would crash in five years....`

I often wonder too when these `think tanks` like the Institute of Fiscal Studies keep appearing on the news saying the opposite is true? Many will garbage what Labour promise because they just tout it as the magic money tree, but there is no balance in society and that needs to change or the lower end of society will continue to pay the price while those that can excel in their quest of greed are never touched.

Mind you the Labour Party don't seem to be saying much about the Universal Credit shambles. You would think they would be on the offensive? :S

Labour aren't being radical enough when it comes to the injustices of the DWP. when you think about it only Corbyn and McDonnell can be said to be socialists, the rest are just New Labor. I can't see a Labour government being allowed to do anything they promise. The right wing press will hound them out of office.
