The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has revealed that over 21,000 sick and disabled people died waiting for it to give them benefits. That’s nearly 12 people a day dying; waiting for a decision over their claims.

But these shocking figures pose more questions than they answer.
The DWP: shocking revelations

DWP minister Sarah Newton published the figures in response to an MP’s question. Labour’s Madeleine Moon asked:

how many people have died while waiting for their personal independence payment assessment to be completed; and what conditions those people died from.

Newton revealed the number of deaths between April 2013 and 30 April 2018. She said:

4,760 claimants died between the DWP referring their case to, and it returning from, an assessment provider.
73,800 claimants died within 6 months of registering their claim.
17,070 claimants died after registering but prior to the DWP making a decision on their claim.

The total number of PIP claimants who died topped 95,000. But Newton’s response does not indicate at what stage of their claim the 73,800 people who died within six months of it being registered were at.

More than 21,000 sick and disabled people die waiting for vital benefits

Campaigners warn the 'appalling situation' is set to get even worse under Universal Credit.

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has admitted that over 21,000 ill and disabled people died waiting for their Personal Independence Payment (PIP) assessment to be completed, between April 2013 and 30 April 2018.

PIP is claimed by people with a range of health conditions and disabilities, many of which are chronic, degenerative or life limiting.

Sarah Newton MP, the Minister of State for Disabled People, published the figures on 11 January following a question raised in parliament by Labour MP Madeleine Moon in December.

She asked: “How many people have died while waiting for their personal independence payment assessment to be completed; and what were the conditions those people died from?”

Responding to the question, Newton said: “All benefit claims can be made under the special rules for people who are terminally ill which will mean that they are fast tracked.

“These are currently being cleared within 6 working days for new claimants to PIP.

Quote from Link Given;

For tens of thousands to have died whilst waiting for their PIP claim to be finalised is a damning indictment of DWP policy and failure. These are our mothers and fathers, our sons and daughters, our brothers and sisters, whose final days on this earth have been marred by stress and worry and anxiety.
By allowing this country to be run by a cruel Victorian government, a government that lacks all compassion, that lacks all integrity, that has no conscience or decency, we must all share in this shame. So, it must be a wakeup call; another way is possible. Because if we stand together in the coming months, if we do what needs to be done, everything can change, everything.
The DWP is not fit for purpose. Nothing short of root and branch change by a different government will now do.

To me that sums it all up in a nutshell,
How many more will die before this Government is given the shove, Out of Office and Out of Power; That Answer is down to us All.

with any luck we will have a general election this year and give them the boot paul I just worry about what the alternative corbyn is pushing will entail socialism dose not have a good track record combine that with the identitarian Marxist commie faction of the left that is infecting all facets of society its a pretty daunting prospect.

If we are lucky corbyn will take a social democrat approach to socialism and not the full on anti capitalist democratic socialist approach with all that crap about seizing the means of production that destroys a country's economy and attempts to nationalise everything under the sun and leads to wealthy business men pulling out of the country out of fear of losing there investments with no compensation.
The social democrat approach is one similar to what we see in Scandinavia its still a capitalist country just with a high rate of taxation on the wealthy that allows them to fund a strong welfare state.

When I see headlines like this it makes me think we are headed towards the bad kind of communist socialism

Capitalism may have its flaws but take a look around you next time you are in town we have fat homeless people with I-phone's, and then look at Venezuela where they are literally starving to death breaking in to zoo's killing animals for something to eat.

I would rather see the corrupt elements of capitalism fixed and prevent the 1% from exploiting everyone and giving nothing back to society under capitalism we have seen unprecedented levels of progress for humanity through the innovation it encourages and its many inventions that have liberated us in many ways that we take for granted.

Lets not throw the baby out with the bath water is all I'm saying

You make some good points there Finnster. better the devil we know and all that......and the fact that we now ARE a Capitalist society in many ways which has squeezed the poor into no man`s land, the changes MP`s preach about ending homelessness etc...are like f***ting in the wind promises when they know that around 3,00,000 new homes need to be built in one year just to accommodate people who need housing at all, never mind those poor peeps who have no home. The challenges are huge and I was listening to Vanessa Redgrave (actress) on Radio 2 yesterday saying MP`s don`t know their history and keep repeating the same mistakes again and again.

Problems like this should be high on a governments list of priorities but they just brush them under the carpet as `To Do`s`....

Mr Corbyn is going to have to `up` his game plan now if he or his party are going to have ANY chance to change this government. It seems even a vote of no confidence still wouldn`t be enough to oust them. Then what?

Lets see what transpires after tonight`s vote. It should be a no vots, but the Tories always seem to find a way out of trouble. I doubt they will find Brexit that easy.
