Over two million older people are at risk of losing free TV licences, says charity.

More than two million older people living in Britain could be forced to cut back on the food they eat or shut off their heating to continue watching television, a leading UK charity has warned.

New research carried out for Age UK has found that 40% of people aged 75+ in the UK won’t be able to afford the licence fee, or will have to cut back on everyday essentials including food and heating, to pay for a TV license if concessions are scrapped.

Reforms to BBC funding mean free TV licenses for over-75’s will no longer be funded by the UK Government, but will be left to the discretion of the public broadcaster from 2020.

My guess is that the decision is due to a lot of fit and healthy baby boomers getting closer to their 75th birthday.
Toads - Philip Larkin
Why should I let the toad work, Squat on my life?
Can't I use my wit as a pitchfork And drive the brute off?
Six days of the week it soils,With its sickening poison -
Just for paying a few bills! That's out of proportion...

This maybe a radical idea here. But maybe they could 'privatise' this Quango, and therefore the BBC make there money from adverts? As I gather the 'TV licence' only for 2x channels (BBC 1 & BBC 2). Besides the Beeb's reputation for 'impartiality' has long since gone to my knowledge? Add that to I wouldn't keep getting these 'threatening letters from the TV Licence in the post (yes another public company that has been privatised, the Post office/mail). As you can tell I don't watch 'Fools lantern'.

The solution to this problem is so simple you just don't pay it i haven't paid for a tv licence my whole live never had a problem get the usual threatening letters witch I ignore.
When they come to the door I tell them I don't have a tv and they have nothing to suggest I do own one they ask to come in I tell them to fuck off they only have an implied right of access and if they want in they will have to come back with police and a warrant and they never come back :P

you can remove that implied right of access as well by calling them and telling them you don't have a TV and don't need to pay a licence and to stop sending you unsolicited threatening letters.

Many, Many Years ago I Did have a TV Licence,
It was £20 a year for a Black & White set, Moved house, Decided TV (Licence) was not value for money and never renewed it,
Never had one since, and with the Bias & Crap, Nobody should pay it.
Fully agree with Finnister, DONT PAY IT!. :woohoo:

In this age, it`s absolutely ridiculous that the BBC should be able to have such a stranglehold over the population when Sky and others are HUGE and can run a decent shop by subscription and `packages` for TV/Broadband/Phone etc.

If people were not forced to have a TV licence, they would be free to use that £150 quid a year paying for subscriptions to channels they like and adding their BB/Phone into it if they wished. Sky 24 hour news is on FREEVIEW so no need for the BBC version. It`s getting beyond a joke this country. Charges for this, taxes for that, bills always going up (rather than down) and those of us who live on a static income are expected to meet those demands or do without. It time this idiotic licence was SCRAPPED.

OK EVERYONE TAKE NOTICE: NO NEED TO EVER HAVE TO PAY A TV LICENCE EVER AGAIN:

The only reason I can think of why anyone pays this Tax, is they are scared of Authority
or are a snowflake.

After watching these Youtube videos,I was wondering when the 'Panorama' tv-show would be investigating these people, from the TV Licensing.. :S

I would hate to think if claimants where able to video record in the Dole of the Work-Roaches in action intimidating claimants. :woohoo:

And let’s not forget @The-Finnster, of how much some of the top people are paid at this corporation. They are not getting the “Single claimant aged under 25: £251.77 per month.” On the Universal Credit scheme. Nice to know that this is where your tv-licence fee is going… And I would like to see the pie-chart of the breakdown of where your tv-licence money goes, and how much goes on wages/pensions?

Not to mention of how much it costs to send me "Junk Mail" of why I need a tv-licence. I don't get any junk-mail from Tesco's TM asking me why I don't shop in there stores!!!

didn't take them long to trigger me couple sentences in they say this

Men dominate BBC's star salaries list

Damn BBC couldn't resist getting a quick dig in at men yet again on that article pushing for that equality of outcome cultural Marxism is everywhere, I mean it couldn't possibly be that those men work harder and earned what they get because they bring in higher ratings now eh ?

its not the first time they have been beating this drum
