40 children expelled from state schools every day, government figures reveal

Some 7,720 students were expelled in the 2016-17 school year, an increase of nearly 1,000 pupils from the year before. The vast majority of these expulsions — 83 per cent — were in secondary schools.

While persistent disruption remains the main reason for the exclusions, there has also been a rise in exclusions for sexual “misconduct,” racist abuse, and physical and verbal assaults.

After the figures were revealed, progressive think tank IPPR said that expelled children educated in Pupil Referral Units (PRU) are nearly three times more likely to have an unqualified teacher.

Tottenham Labour MP David Lammy said these children are far more likely to end up in the criminal justice system.

My nephew is 10 and he got chucked out of Primary school. He has ADHD and took 4 yrs to get him diagnosed and on the right meds. He was a total nighmare swearing spitting knives, trashed the library. Would kick punch you name it he would do it. In the end he was sent to a school where he was pretty much 1 to 1 and they have managed to get him into another main stream school along side the right meds. He is doing really well but it could of so easily gone the other way.
He can still be a nighmare normally around 6ish for a hr or 2 until his night time meds but least his is on the right track. Be interesting to see how secondary school works out for him. Ive been a long time believer that once some children have grasped the basics there should be other options like mechanic, hotriculture, chippy, bricky, beauty etc as it's important they have something they want to learn and focus on so that they can enter the big wide world and have a half decent job.
