Yesterday (don`t know what came over me) I was looking at my phone and put my gmail address into my phone to `sign in` to google play, thinking I might want to look at a few of the free apps on it. Having done this, I`m finding all sorts of icons appearing on my phone and when I scroll down the screen, there`s another one to deal with.

I got some `activation` emails though on my laptop from google just to clarify it was me who activated this and I ticked the boxes on screen just to complete the security stuff.

However, I`ve realised I don`t want the damn thing active now and I turned on WiFi, went to `settings` under Personal, I clicked on `accounts` and chose google play and deleted it. I`m not sure whether this has de-activated it though because when I click on the app google play, it asks me to `sign in`? Also, I`ve noticed it has `syncing` turned on? Not sure what this is but I don`t want my emails sent to my phone but this doesn`t seem to be happening anyway.

Any clues as to whether i`ve deleted this action or if I`m still going to have notifications and updates for this app running in the background and draining my battery?

be careful not to download apps as they will automatically download and install if you happen to click a link/icon :)

I won`t jobber. I would only be able to sign in to this Google Play Store now by using my gmail account address and having been strict with myself not to apply it in the past, I went ahead and typed in my gmail address into the box yesterday as curiosity got the better of me for some silly reason. I never did this on my other phone though due to now wanting any link between my google account and my phone, but I suppose I thought it might be something I could use if I wanted to look at some free apps, then I realised I don`t really use them and hate the notifications and `updates` they do. :pinch:

Now when I activate my phone, I get this File Manager notification and can`t get rid of the damn thing. I`ve obviously opened up a can of worms and just gave myself a headache.

The page says: File manager - As a valid user of file manager, your privacy rights are taken seriously by us. We will collect, use, transfer and process your personal information including device ID ,country, code etc....something to do with APP? I`m sure i deleted this or something similar that was related to apps on my Alcatel Pixi 4 phone not that long ago and now this google play store has applied it`s own crap.

How the hell do I reverse this? It`s not the google itself, it`s the play store app I activated that has caused all this hassle. My battery is also going down faster since all this and it`s doing my head in! When I look in `accounts`, it only states `add an account`. So when I deleted the google account earlier, that disappeared from the list, but this file manager is still there and it`s this I need to get rid of.

Managed to get rid of the file manager by following this:

However, after I rebooted the phone, a notification is there saying: Your data isn`t backed up - add a backup account now....

What the hell is it asking for now?

I might end up doing a factory reset on the phone because from the day I bought it, I deleted many apps and features from the menu anyway like facebook, twitter, messenger etc, but given my knowledge of smartphones a few years ago, I`ve probably messed it up by fiddling about with it too much!

Ah, the good old days Paul! I still have my 2g Samsung E1200 and only stopped using it recently as the credit has run down to 49p and I only really kept it going for mum to call my sister on! My two 3g phones are with other PAYG networks now so I tend to use those these days, hence the google intrusions. :S

Although both my 3g phones are android, I`ve never bothered to activate my existing` google account on either phone because all I want from the phones are to use them for calls and texts. I can connect to WiFi just because I have home broadband anyway, but what possessed me to enter my gmail address into one of my phones recently I don`t know. Call it a senior moment.

Anyway, no harm done as I managed to quit before it messed anything up and I didn`t agree to their `terms & conditions` page either, so when I connect to WiFi now, it`s not trying to update anything or download anything. I think my curiosity got the better of me and we know what that did to the cat.....
