Hello,
I applied for a Warehouse job (image below) that seemed ideal for me a few weeks ago. I left it a week and then I decided to send the agency an email to ask if there were any update to my application. To the agency's credit, they did respond. The reply was that the job was put on hold as the MD was off. They also said they would come back to me in a week.

I left it a week and then sent them an email to chase them up for an update. I waited a few days for a responce, None came. I think I've sent them 3 more emails since then and each time, nothing comes back. If the job didn't seem so ideal for me I wouldn't have been persuing the agency for so long.

I can't even find any web pages about the agency or any contact details, other than the email address I have. Why do these independent agencies not respond to people who show genuine interest in a job that they advertise? I can't work it out.

Should I continue and try a get a responce out of the agency or just forget about it?
Thanks.

Looks like a want-to-be agency. Note the "We are tiny in comparison to some of our competitors"

Why should I let the toad work, Squat on my life?
Can't I use my wit as a pitchfork And drive the brute off?
Six days of the week it soils,With its sickening poison -
Just for paying a few bills! That's out of proportion...

Paulm10 , you could try and google the company name if you are seriously into that position they are advertising. But dont hold your breath as the net is full of thousands of jobs being advertised that dont actually exist. Its a little trick they all do to build a portfolio of never ending candidates.I am now VERY choosy as to which of these clowns gets my cv etc.Experience of working with many of them has taught me their game plan.

There are many who specialise in either plaguing you with phone calls to fill their day.Or once they have their sheep data base filled with your details cv etc, just sit and wait for the first A sheep to fail an interview, walk out, or get sacked and in comes B sheep and the process begins again.

I've researched quite a few lately and they just set up shop either from home or work from a cheap rented crap hole of an office.

A website, phone and some nice looking paper work seems to do the trick.Have you noticed depending on what their advertising is either its their very special niche or they cover ABSOLUTELY everything  Talk to them on the phone and they haven't a bloody clue as to exactly what it is you do or what their client wants.

Good Luck

I've just rung Hearts Recruit and the lady seemed very pleasant. (Although she didn't answer with "Hello, This is Hearts Recruitment".) She just said "Hello".)

I explained who I was and why I rang. I asked her if the job was still available.
She said that the client has put the job on hold as they were having some family issues.

I said that the job seemed ideal for me and asked her to keep me informed about the job if any updates occured and she said she would.

It would be nice if she came back to me (to offer me an interview with the company) but I'm not going to hold my breath.

That does sound strange eh? Usually when we call up a business or a shop etc, they will answer with `Hello, X company` and sometimes give their own name. Just saying `Hello` doesn`t start off the conversation well when you then have to ask `Is that X agency`?!!!

Best of luck with this and if they are genuinely keen to get people interviews, they will note your interest and notify you. Wish you well with it paulm.

I've just checked the ICO database for 'Hearts Recruit' and found nothing:

Be prepared for them to call you back WHEN they do have a vacancy calling you by your first name as though your a long lost friend. They are not your friend. You are there for them to make money out of.If you are skilled they will sell you for as cheap as they can, that's £25 per hour to their client, £15 for them and £10 for you.Not bad for a phone call and a black and white print out of terms and condition contract if your lucky.Glad i am no longer young, as back in my day we were paid our worth and for some strange reason agencies paid you well, and so did 'employers.' Its dog of a world now.

"I said that the job seemed ideal for me and asked her to keep me informed about the job if any updates occurred and she said she would."
Cant tell you how many times I've been given that line the past 5 years. They will as i said before when someone gets fired, dies,or leaves. Its a numbers game. When all slots are full they wont call. Then there's the game of 6 agencies supplying to 1 client all with different quotes per hour. They then give you the crap that 'their the ONLY agency that deals with X' so you dont go anywhere else  . Including approaching A / The company direct.Nothing to stop you when no contract is in place.

I have years of experience dealing with these sharks and id advise anyone to save time and cash.Look after number 1.

Hope it comes through for you, there is a good chance if the basic pay is very low, as they end up with a big turn over of staff due to that.

"the client has put the job on hold " AKA: Another agency has supplied another candidate they dont want to lose face by telling you in the process keeping your data on file to be farmed out to all and everyone they wish.
