Members of the travelling community are challenging each other to carry out incredible acts of kindness by donating trolley loads of shopping to food banks.

The challenge, which has been sweeping social media has seen hundreds taking part in the 'Travellers Challenge'.

Members of the community have been nominated each other to fill a trolley or basket with food or supplies and donate it to a local food bank.

Suzanne Jones, 58, from Llanelli, says seeing the streets full of homeless people is what motivated her and her husband to get involved.

"The streets are full of homeless people who need our help," she said.

"There are babies and children who need warm food and coffee to help them keep going. Travellers are generous and open hearted and if we see anyone suffering, we will do what we can to help them.

"As well as donating food we are donating toys also, because no child should be without a toy on Christmas day.

Last year when I visited my local Lidl store in town, there was a woman selling the Big Issue standing at the front of the store. She was a small rotund woman who appeared either Indian or of Pakistan origin and she always had a smile for me when she saw me. Each time I didn`t buy the magazine but explained to her my own position, but I always bought her a pastry to have with a cuppa! She was always greatful. Haven`t seen her since then but it just reminds us all that there are individuals out there, no matter who they are or where they came from, need a smile and a cookie!

The majority of people on the streets shouldn`t be there. It`s true that many will have drug or alcohol issues and those are specialist areas, but those who have been thrown out of their homes because of arrears due to UC or other similar causes should be getting immediate help to shelter until their circumstances are looked into and improved. It`s not good enough that people are left to rot.

If You read through the "Comments" Section at the end of the Linked story, I was shocked at the Number of very Negative & Disrespectful Comments
directed at the Travellers Community, I have Full respect for the Travellers doing Something Positive to help a rapidly growing number of Desperate people here in Britain.
But its the same old Story; Any Group who are "Different" from mainstream Britain are Targeted, ITS WRONG, And needs changing.

I`m of the view Paul that most of the hatred or misunderstanding around anyone that looks or acts differently to what we regards as `British` comes about though fear, fake news or not understanding that particular person(s) or group(s) ways. I`m not religious for example, but I`ll bet if I fell on hard times and walked into a mosque asking for food or shelter, I would get it. Same could be said for most religious people`s given they follow a code of belief that all people should be treated as they would like to be treated. I don`t need a faith to teach me that, but it`s a sad reality that people, however different they are in colour or belief of ethnicity are painted as `different` when we are all the same species.
