So, anyone claiming ESA will be given THREE months to make a claim for Universal Credit. So they say. If the claim is botched, the claimant will still be eligible for their legacy benefit until the UC claim is finalised. Where have we heard this before? What they probably meant to say was, if the UC claim doesn`t go through, your payments won`t either.

There is clearly pressure to amend UC but the results are always tokenist and never remove the particular element causing concern and difficulties. Why oh why go through all the timewasting of applications instead of just automatically transferring people from ESA? Entitlement has already been long established and UC was meant to simplify matters. An utter contradiction.

In a nutshell Verc, it`s a bit like their Brexit plans, a mess. They already HAVE ESA claimants details in the system so clearly, it should be a letter saying - "Dear X, we have transferred you onto Universal Credit and your next payment will be paid on X date. You do not have to do anything."....or words to that effect.

Wish the benefits system was that simple.
