I called the ESA number and got a message saying "This number has changed"....it is now 0800 169 0310

I was relieved because it used to be an 0345 code that would have cost me roughly 13p a minute on my landline and more on my mobile. This number is for ESA enquiries only. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Just as well it`s a freephone call.

I am sure that is the number on my latest health assessment letter but will check later as I refuse to open the filing cabinet until after the holiday. When I rang it because my recorded delivery had not yet arrived by then (it had later the same third day) there was the usual set of optiions to press to get to ESA before being put on hold. I was on for my personal limit of 15 minutes - more than long enough for a professional body to have somebody available to pick up - I log how many times I have to do this before getting through and point it out to them as and when relevant.

Verc, you have good perception because I just checked my health assessment letter too and it is the same 0345 number that is on my ESA award letter from 2016 and I didn`t notice! Thanks for pointing although when you call that number now the message says "This number has changed` and gives the 0800 number instead. Just aswell because it took 45 minutes for someone to answer.

Thanks comply but I am not that perceptive more like an elephant's memory. I was referring to the 0800 version which I had only rang days earlier and yeah it is correct I just checked. Like I said, it was just the same loop of selections to get to ESA not an ESA line specifically. Are you saying that you didn't have to choose options to proceed though?

When I rang the 0345 number (which was on my original ESA award letter) the message said - "This number has changed" and gave the 0800 version. It then said something about odd payments to UC and to call that helpline or go online to check it. So not what I was calling for! It then said press "1" to continue......then a robotic voice asked, "Please tell us WHY you are calling"....and went on to give suggestions of what to say. When prompted, I said "employment and support allowance" and the robotic voice replied, "employment and support allowance....is that right?" then I had to say "YES"! After which I was put on hold and Vivaldi started playing. 45 minutes later, someone finally answered.

Went recently to enquire about ESA after having contract terminated on health grounds. Was immediately told to apply for UC. But entitledto.co.uk had said ESA. challenged them and gave more info they never asked for. Magicallly they changed their advice straight away: ESA.

Just see this on Twitter. Interesting that you can still claim ESA and not automatically UC

Glad you found this out first TW because they will always lie about this. If you were on JSA before r worked and never claimed UC, this is not the time to start. Fill in your ESA50 form and this will lead to a face to face assessment. Medical evidence is KEY as you know and keeping your submissions like this:

I believe I should get X points for activity Y because I cannot do descriptor Z because...…. and linking your health problem TO that descriptor. I`ve learned that this is all about factual evidence and leading an assessor and then persuading a decision maker to award appositive decision. I have a few falsities within my recent ESA85 report which I will expand on if I have to do a Mandatory Reconsideration or/then appeal. But it`s best to always stick to the facts and not concentrate too much on saying things like `I didn`t say this or that didn`t happen`....Prepare this as if you are a lawyer defending yourself.
