I met with a voluntary organisation today just to see what `opportunities` they were offering and met a nice young woman who gave me a tick-box form to fill out, put my name, phone number and my gmail address down for contacting me and then we chatted about me and my current pain issues and I told her a bit about me and that I am restricted to what I can do. In a nutshell, they will email me any positions that arise they think I could fit into and I said, fine, I can then go and have a chat with them and go forward. A few of the opportunities were befriending older people in their own home, a women`s group and helping/assisting Syrian refugees. I also said I was interested in the local hospital volunteering but she said that was mostly `sitting down`....so may not help my neck pain! I actually feel better standing up, but I also need to sit down too! So it`s still something I can look into and find out what that`s all about.

My job centre know I was meeting them today, so it`s all just a matter of me organising these things now and just keeping any coach I see up dated. My main worry though is this. Even though they encourage ESA claimants to do volunteering or supported work, I don`t want to be doing anything where they will identify that I have done things that dispute my ESA descriptors because I know it`s easy to feel good about volunteering, but I`m also very wary of being `watched` and being dragged through an early assessment if they think I`m more able to do stuff, which is why I`m not agreeing to anything more than a few hours a week befriending or meeting with others where I`m only giving advice on computer use and not doing anything physical or disputing my descriptors.

Any advice on this would be appreciated. I don`t want to be feeling good about participating in something just for it to bite me on the behind down the line. I contacted this voluntary organisation myself rather than waiting on the job centre pushing me onto something else. So in a way, trying to take control rather than waiting to be shot at.
