A Conservative minister gets caught on camera ‘trying to revive the dementia tax’. And Corbyn’s having none of it.

A Conservative minister has been caught on camera saying that taxes shouldn’t fund care for older people; and that pension-age homeowners should sell their homes to cover the costs.

We’ve heard these claims before. The Conservatives’ proposed ‘dementia tax’ was a key blunder in Theresa May’s 2017 election campaign. Yet her minister for adult social care has suggested it’s time to revive the idea.

But Labour caught wind of it. And Corbyn isn’t having any of it.

“I don’t think it’s fair”

On 11 October, a video emerged from a fringe event at the disastrous 2017 Conservative Party conference. In the video, MP Jackie Doyle-Price suggests pensioners are a ‘burden’ on society for having care needs.

I don’t think it’s fair to expect the next generation of taxpayers to pay for… this generation’s long-term needs, when ultimately this is the first generation that’s going to be less well off than what went before it.

Then, she says older people should only live in their homes if they can afford their own care:

We’ve got to a stage where people feel that they are the custodian of an asset to give to their offspring, but actually we need to get back to a stage when actually homes are for living in.
And that
People are now… well into their pension ages, sitting in homes that are too big for their needs
Meanwhile, 200,000 homes in England aren’t lived in. Buckingham Palace has 775 rooms. And almost 20% of MPs are landlords. But no one’s telling them that “homes are for living in”.

I think it`s strange that we are the focus of government for most, if not all of our lives being tax payers and productive in other ways, keeping their precious economy alive, yet when we get too old or too ill to do these things, we are seen as non entities to use as a burden on the state and those still paying tax? Come on people, WAKE UP to this. Lets face it, people believe buying their homes and saving for retirement are all good ideas, but when you retire or need government help, they will pick your bones clean dry and you will be left with F all. When you near retirement, only have enough savings (£6000 at the moment under pension age but pensioners are allowed to have £10,000) as a maximum in your savings or they will want your soul.

Yes the TORYS all over " do as we say not as we do" they all sit comfortably in nice big houses and trying their best to implement tax changes that will never touch them as they are all sitting comfortably on wheel barrow loads of cash with the odd property or 2 to go around  .

So working hard, investing in something for the future and paying a ton of tax and Ni and then when we're all on our last legs cos we lasted longer than they wanted, its sell your only asset if you have one to sell and we're stick you in one hell hole to be looked after.

They want this as just like everything else when the horses have bolted and sent money all down the drain and siphoned enough off for themselves, someone has to pay and its the little guy in the street again!!

Nice one TORYS  .
