Disability activists stage the biggest fight back yet in nationwide week of action

POLITICIANS must not give up on disabled people’s rights amid the “Brexit frenzy,” activist Linda Burnip warned yesterday ahead of a week of action opposing “the endless number of attacks” on people with disabilities in Britain.
Disability activists will be staging protests from today to draw attention to the devastating effects of Tory cuts which have seen the number of disabled people living in poverty rise to 4.2 million.
A national day of action by Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) will see protests today outside jobcentres and hospitals.
Ms Burnip, who co-founded DPAC, told the Star: “We’re doing this to make sure that MPs don’t give up on disabled people’s rights in the Brexit frenzy.
“It’s important that we remain visible and our needs are acted upon.

As long as we are taking money from the public purse, we will always be questioned and seen as numbers, not individuals. Atos, Maximus and Capita are seeing to that on the governments behalf and being well paid (PUBLIC MONEY) to do it. I know an older man, retired now, who had his independent living allowance removed last year. he was telling me how he was finding life more difficult and wanted a carer to come in a few times a week just to help with some housework or small tasks. The council told him he would have to pay for one!....then six months later, he fell at home and had a stroke. Spent around four months in hospital and is now home, in a wheelchair and guess what? he has carers coming in three times a day.

This man has gone from driving his car and being independent, to relying on carers and not being able to drive anymore. I always wave in when I`m passing or stop to chat to him if I`m passing on my way home. It`s all about quality of life, yet something bad has to happen before we get anywhere then they are happy to pay out. This man by the way worked all his life.

I actualy know someone faceing that exact same scenario atm CoD except thanks to the masively dangerously under funded state of the NHS she is not reciveing enough help in her atempts to rehabilitate herself through phisiopherapy ect the nurses barely spend any time with her and she only gets 10 mins of phisio a day witch she can not allways face on there time table and the nurses are more than happy to put in her file that she is uncoperative and atempt to shove her off to an old folks home :(
if only they had spent some money on a carer in the first place when she asked for one she may not have had that stroke and would still have some quality of life and independance instead she is faceing liveing out her life as a ward of the state in some retierment home
