TENS of thousands of disabled Scots will be forced to go through “cruel” Tory assessments because the SNP delayed the transfer of social security powers to Holyrood, according to new data from Scottish Labour yesterday.
The party’s figures show that nearly 130,000 working-age Scots currently claiming disability living allowance will have to be assessed for the new personal independence payments after the SNP asked the British government to retain responsibility for some benefits in Scotland until 2020.
Scottish Labour’s social security spokesman Mark Griffin MSP said his party was committed to ending these “cruel and inhumane assessments that have piled misery on vulnerable Scots.”
But he warned the SNP’s decision last year to delay the powers was an “astonishing failure” and means that 130,000 Scots will be assessed under the current system.

I read not long ago that an SNP spokesperson said they want to `do this right`, hence the delays. Many, if not all claimants on one of these sickness benefits won`t want to hear that. DLA (Disability Living Allowance) is the old benefit that will be replaced by PIP (Personal Independence Payment) and I heard that there is also a backlog again for assessments in this area. I know a guy who is on DLA and hasn`t been sent the PIP form yet. He`s been on DLA for years and has the free unlimited travel. He tells me he hasn`t been in a job centre for over 10 years.....I hope he knows what`s coming his way because I don`t think he realises.

ESA WRAG claimants like myself seem to get the raw end of the stick, yet some of us should be in the Support Group but are stuck in WRAG because the SG descriptors are so demanding, yet mobility or managing daily tasks can fluctuate for many people. The descriptors are so blatant.
