I had a windows 10 update this morning (delayed from late last night) and since the download, I've had the following issues:

1. Some of the keys/symbols on my keyboard changed and I couldn't then type in my passwords to access my email accounts because the @ symbol, I have to press the number 2 + shift to get that @ symbol to appear? It`s driving me literally mad! I thought clicking on the task bar ENG to the right of the screen and choosing one of the options there would go back to my default, but it just keeps switching back again to another symbol altogether.

2. When I press Enter to skip to the next line of text, it literally jumps about three margins down! Instead of the usual two spaces.

I`ve had to change my gmail AND Microsoft hotmail passwords due to access problems and had text messages sent to me with new security codes! :S

Things still are not working properly since this BIG change Microsoft threw at me this morning and normally things just work again as before, but this time it`s cause all sorts of wobbles and faults. Anyone advise on this please? Has anyone else had the `download` of updates from MIcrosoft laterly?

Pain in the ass comply updates. I would cancel them as i did after the last auto update crashed my win 10 and cost me 30 quid to have repaired. I asked the repair guy to block updates which he did and he put me Avast security on it instead of win defender which needs updates.
You should try a system restore, look it up on google, it sends the computer back to the point when it worked fine and bins any last updates.
If you havnt got any restore points when you look then my advice is to create one now as i could have repaired my computer myself if i had one but i didnt have one.

Thanks guys. I managed to find the culprit that was messing with my keyboard. I had actually looked at the solution earlier in the day but didn`t realise I had to choose `options` and change the regional language set as English - United States to English - United Kingdom (thanks to jobber for the response to this! B) )

nemesis, I`ve had windows updates before and although some were long winded downloads, this one has been a large file that has overridden even my Hotmail password and when I went to log into my screen yesterday after the download had ended, I met with a block that told me the password was not valid. So it took me the best part of yesterday of faffing around, changing both my Hotmail AND my gmail passwords, getting security codes sent by text from google and Microsoft to allow the changes to be made and then once I`d sorted that little lot out, my keyboard didn`t recognise a few of the symbols like @ and ". It was literally driving me mad!

I`m still angry that Microsoft have esentially forced my hand here and messed up both my email passowrds. Thankfully, I kept them the same but with a few minor changes to the lettering. But it had me in a state of panic which I don`t like at the best of times. The update for anyone interested is Windows Update 1803. Microsoft have merged a lot of things into one account and introduced a lot of new features. So now I have an Outlook account page where I can log into my emails and a OneDrive account which is new and looks like the Microsoft version of Google Docs/Drive.

So be warned people, look out for Windows Update 1803 because to me, it`s as if Microsoft have given Windows 10 a facelift and added more functions to it and by doing so, have caused me a headache yesterday that I didn`t need or expect. My poor eyes felt like broken eggshells last night trying to find fixes for everything that changed or had stopped working.

Seems okay today but I`ve yet to look into some of the new changes they have made.

More on this update:
www.computerworld.com/article/3269566/microsoft-windows/microsoft-unexpectedly-starts-pushing-win10-version-1803-through-windows-update.html

I don`t think trying to go back to the previous update is wise for me now as Microsoft will one day push this on it`s users anyway, so as I`ve already had my face turn  yesterday with the hassle it caused, I`m hoping to move forward now and hope it just works the same.

The trigger for this update is checking for new updates, so if you don`t want it, don`t click on `check for updates`!

That does indeed sound like hell and hope the rest now gets back to something like normal for you.

I did not like the way Win10 seemed to be being forced on everybody and eventually found a way to block it from even getting updated onto my system. 7 to 10 in one go filled me with dread. After the hell of going from 7 to 8 on my last PC just before it conked out the one I now have had for 4 years is and was a custom built recon for Win7 professional and I hope it stays that way - if it ain't broke don't fix it as they say.

Thanks for the info all the same, one never knows.

Verc, my laptop is now 8 years old and has taken the massive Windows 10 upgrade (from 7) and all it`s updates since then well so far, but this 1803 version update nearly done ME in but not the laptop! It seems that this 1803 version is a big change to Windows 10 adding new features to it, which is all very well, but it`s a bit like turning a corner on the street and seeing a bus about to hit you! Maybe I was nieve in not realising this update was looming and thought I was just looking to update as normal.

No doubt there are still hidden things in this update I havn`t addressed yet or come across until I hit a key one day and realise it`s one of the new features and won`t have a clue how to use it! At least having had to change both my email passowrds they are now working again.

As a side note, I thought if a system like Windows wasn`t `updated` that I could be compromising my security? One of the reasons I go into `settings` and look for manual updates in the first place, even though they update automatically anyway, I usually run past this every day just to make sure my laptop is `up to date` so to speak. I would fear turning off auto updates incase I missed a crucial security patch or other insurance update. I also run the free version of Malwarebytes. Although Windows Defender is very good,I have to say and is free. I always figured that if using Windows, I should rely on MIcrosoft to protect it and so far, they have, even though I`ve had a few trojans sneak in from time to time, I`ve always managed to capture them and zap them!
