Went to sign on this week with a different adviser again, half way through signing the work coach says she wants to send me to an information session to see if I want to sign up for any courses, I tell her that's fine, but then the wc says it's in half an hours time at a different jc.

When I inform her its too much short notice, I'll go on a different day the wc says it's only happening today. So I change the subject and say I might start volunteering at a charity shop which is separate from jc and providers the wc says I don't think you should do that. Which goes to show the wc only want you volunteering if you are stuck with a provider with sanctions involved. If you want to do it yourself they don't want you to do it.
Anyway the wc book me on to the information session and says just go and listen your not forced to sign up to the course, so I agree to go and ask for my referral letter and she says you don't need one.
When I get to the other jc my name isn't even on the list, but they write I attended anyway.
Worryingly, the three other people who attended were on uc and they said they recieved a text one hour before this session took place to attend or face sanctions. There was even a man there who said he had a part time job in the evening and his adviser wanted him to do the 6 week course 9am to 5pm aswell as go to his job afterwards.

So that sounds like when everyone is on uc it's gonna be a wild goose chase going here and there.

Another good reason NOT to provide them with a mobile phone number and if you already have withdraw consent to them using it. Having a mobile phone is NOT a condition of JSA OR UC. I have a FOI saved somewhere, I will post it later on. I know your coach sent you along on the day Catwoman but I mention the mobile thing just to clarify for those who may not be aware. It just removes one of the ways they can contact us.

Another lie. Anyone claiming JSA OR UC can volunteer their time and it also reduces your job search hours. My job centre has charity shop volunteering places plastered all over a notice board with `ask your work coach` if interested, but you can approach charities yourself without involving JCP. The only thing I would add here is, I have heard of people volunteering and then being told (forced) to give it up in order to be sent on one of their objectives, but they would need to justify this overrule if the volunteering you are doing is applying new skills or gaining more experience in a field of interest. I would always challenge any decision to change this to be sent to something else that may just be a computer generated lottery.

See This FOI: assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/551198/foi-783-2013.pdf

And this on mobiles and UC: www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/300549/response/740144/attach/html/2/FoI%204697%20reply.pdf.html

Nice one Comply on mobiles etc and sure many will be making a note of this.

We all know its just another way of dwp to spam us all to death never mind this crap of
"The
reason they are asked to provide a phone number is because it provides a quicker
method of contacting the claimant if there are any queries about their new claim."REALLY!

I'd say email is just as quick if you can be bothered to type Mr & Ms/Mrs admin dept.

Plus there wont be any dead headed music that dwp will have to listen to while they wait for us for to answer. Although i am sure we could arrange this for them if they were that insistent upon calling.

I also like the little trick some cheapskate agencies are doing "Hi, we called you today but there was no answer?" "However we left a message on you voicemail."I might add all of which was total bullshit.Just want us mugs to incur the bill while they talk forever about their great 'opportunities ' in the land of the mini wage slave.

Good point about voicemail jobber. Turn voicemail OFF if it`s a feature you don`t use or don`t want charged for. I received a voicemail from a family member a few months back when I specifically asked them to text ONLY. They still left a bloody voicemail on my phone and now I can`t remove it. I turned the voicemail off before deleting the message and now every time I turn the phone on, it bleeps, alerting me to this old voicemail message. I would need to call Asda mobile to ask them to remove it and can`t be bothered as I`m a PAYG customer and don`t want them asking me questions about myself or my phone preferences just to get a voicemail message deleted.
