Liverpool 0-0 Man United: The good, the bad and the possibilities
Steven Scragg 15 October 2017

Curse Jose Mourinho’s parking the bus style of football all you want, but Steven Scragg wants Liverpool to kick in the bus doors on days like these. He looks at the good, the bad and the possibilities going into two crucial away games this week, beyond Saturday’s draw against Manchester United.

My kids play Minecraft.
I don’t really understand Minecraft. It’s all a bit, well, a bit straight-lined, and well, a bit ‘blocky’. It really holds their attention though. They properly buy into it.
I reckon Jose Mourinho’s ‘special’ brand of football is heavily influenced by Minecraft.
Mourinho’s football is all a bit, well, a bit straight-lined, and well, a bit ‘blocky’. It’s functional, in a pixelated landscape sort of way. It’s effective, and it builds a concept to an extent.

There’s no shelf life to it though. It’s why he moves on so often, like The Littlest Hobo, except less helpful to the community at large, and completely lacking in a catchy theme tune. He’ll soon sign a five, or six-year contract at Old Trafford. He’ll then be gone within eighteen months. Those he commands really buy into it though.

It’s not what it was. The ‘scal Clasico’ as Liverpool vs Manchester United has been christened in some quarters, simply isn’t the entity it used to be. It lacks intensity, it lacks electricity.

The visitors section of Anfield lost its mojo early, their spirit soon drained by the football their team had to offer. Mourinho successfully drew the sting from Liverpool, Anfield, and his own supporters. His levels of satisfaction will be through the roof, but there is an overall self-destruction to the project.

Anti-football mantra’s can only succeed for so long. Pep Guardiola will wipe the floor with him. Jürgen Klopp should have wiped the floor with him.

THE GOOD
We moved the ball around well enough, and Mohamed Salah was the key to most of our best attacking endeavour, certainly during the first hour. We can create chances without Sadio Mane, but taking them continues to be a bit of an issue.

Our defence was rarely stretched, and David De Gea will not be the opposing goalkeeper every week. Goals will come, and someone, somewhere, is going to be on the receiving end of a hammering. It needs to come soon though.

He might have only been on the pitch for a short time, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain made his most promising moves in a Liverpool shirt so far. Maybe the time is nearing for a starting role.

Simon Mignolet, with little to do for much of the game, was alert enough to make the one important save that needed to be made. It would have been all too Liverpool of us to have conceded at that stage of the proceedings.

I Thought we played well against MU, but the odd Liverpool goal here and there would have been nice B)

Hi Paul,

Its the same old story , we've had endless games where we really should have won.

Despite not winning and having a load pf possession our finishing is very poor and some of these guys need some serious target practice and to put some real power behind them shots.

Lets hope on Tuesday we can find some momentum again of which is badly needed as is some real decent wins; man city are putting us to shame lately :( .

Maribor 0-7 Liverpool: Reds dominate in historic Champions League away victory
Jack Lusby
Match ReportsNews
17 October 2017
Liverpool produced a stellar, dominant showing as they sealed a 7-0 win over Maribor in the Champions League group stage on Tuesday night.

Maribor 0-7 Liverpool

Champions League Group Stage, Stadion Ljudski vrt
October 17, 2017

Goals

Firmino 4′ (assist – Salah)
Coutinho 13′ (assist – Milner)
Salah 19′ (assist – Firmino)
Salah 40′ (assist – Moreno)
Firmino 54′ (assist – Coutinho)
Oxlade-Chamberlain 86′ (assist – Sturridge)
Alexander-Arnold 90′ (assist – Coutinho)

Taking to the Stadion Ljudski vrt on Tuesday night, Jurgen Klopp‘s Reds sought only their second victory since the start of September, taking on Europe’s 77th-ranked side.

Maribor vowed to attack their visitors before the clash, setting up an interesting dynamic, particularly following Saturday’s drab 0-0 draw at home to Man United.

Klopp made three changes to his lineup from that afternoon at Anfield, with Loris Karius, Trent Alexander-Arnold and James Milner replacing Simon Mignolet, Joe Gomez and Jordan Henderson.

Still boasting a formidable squad, in a tiny stadium, Liverpool will have been confident of sealing the victory, and it proved to be a cakewalk in Slovenia.

At last we are where we should be!
Brilliant game, Had a good streaming link [ Not full screen] Greatly enjoyed the game,
Do hope we can keep it up.
Well Done Liverpool

Time for the Reds to halt the doom and gloom | Liverpool vs. Huddersfield Preview
Henry Jackson
Match PreviewNews
27 October 2017
Liverpool have to dispatch of Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon, as the levels of discontent continue to grow at Anfield.

Liverpool vs. Huddersfield

Saturday, October 28, 2017 — 3pm (BST)
Anfield
Premier League
Referee: Kevin Friend

Just when it looked as though the Reds’ season was getting back on track, they produced a gutless performance at Wembley last Sunday.

The 4-1 defeat to Tottenham saw some of the worst defending we have witnessed in years, and Jurgen Klopp finds himself under genuine pressure for the first time in his tenure.

This Liverpool side are so frustrating to watch, given their quality during large chunks of matches, but the individuals errors have to stop and more fight must be shown.

Liverpool 3-0 Huddersfield; A much needed three points for the Reds
This Is Anfield
Match ReportsNews
28 October 2017
Goals from Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Gini Wijnaldum gave Liverpool a much needed three points at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Liverpool 3-0 Huddersfield Town

Premier League, Anfield
Saturday, October 28, 2017

Goals

Sturridge 50′ (no assist)
Firmino 58′ (assist – Milner)
Wijnaldum 75′ (assist – Salah)

Jurgen Klopp opted to make just two changes to the team that had lost so comprehensively at Tottenham last time out, with Emre Can on the bench and Philippe Coutinho injured. But an injury in the pre-match warm-up saw Dejan Lovren eventually drop out in place of Ragnar Klavan.

The game soon took up a familiar pattern, with Huddersfield happy to cede possession to Liverpool, who proceeded to struggle to create chances and instead passed side to side in midfield repeatedly.

It took 27 minutes for a first shot on target, but Mohamed Salah failed to get the power required to beat Jonas Lossl.

A poor, staid first-half burst to life when Liverpool were awarded a penalty just before half-time for a shirt pull on Roberto Firmino by Town captain Tommy Smith.

But Salah’s penalty was saved low down by Lossl, with Jordan Henderson then failing to convert the rebound. It was a pretty poor penalty, but questions will be asked as to why James Milner wasn’t taking it.

Good see we got a win Paul apart from Salah and his very poor finishing seriously needs to get some power in his legs for shooting.

Great goal by Wijnaldum :)

Should see another decent win on Wednesday night, and feel the Ox will come good for the reds soon!

another good result Paul. :)

Just need to get this when playing top 4 teams and still haven't regained the flow of excellent play they were showing now some months back.

Hopefully they will now start to come alive.

Lallanah hopefully be back soon and Mane and Philippe Coutinho back in will help things although i feel if Liverpool dont start really performing and win some kind of trophy he will be off which will be sad.

Salah definitely got the speed just the consistency with finishing and shooting power to turn him into a No 1 :)

Liverpool vs. Southampton:
MATT JONES
NOVEMBER 17, 2017

Liverpool have the chance to continue their positive recent upturn in form in front of their home supporters on Saturday, when they welcome Southampton to Anfield.

The Reds made light work of West Ham United in their previous match before the international break, coasting to a 4-1 win at London Stadium. It was the third of three wins in the space of six days for manager Jurgen Klopp and his team.

Southampton, meanwhile, have failed to get going under new boss Mauricio Pellegrino yet and suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Burnley last time out. They are in desperate need of a big performance to reenergise their season.

Liverpool cruised to a 3-0 win against a Southampton team they failed to score against in four games last season, with several encouraging signs.

Liverpool 3-0 Southampton

Premier League, Anfield
November 18, 2017

Goals: Salah 31′, 41′, Coutinho 68′

Salah Quick Off the Mark

Mohamed Salah broke Robbie Fowler’s record of eight by scoring nine goals in his opening 12 Premier League games for Liverpool.

A player once criticised for his finishing is now without doubt the side’s most potent attacking threat, and he took both his chances well.

He was a constant threat to the Southampton back line as he buzzed around Wesley Hoedt, cutting in from the right wing and playing off the shoulder of the last defender.

His first strike was an outstanding left-footed curler as his side won the ball back on the counter-press, before feeding it to him on the right.

The second came from a run across the defence into space opened up by Roberto Firmino. Philippe Coutinho found him with the perfect pass, and the lead was doubled and Fowler’s record broken.

This was the first Premier League game which Coutinho, Salah, Firmino and Sadio Mane have started together, and they will hope to do so again against Sevilla on Tuesday.

They started the Champions League group game in Russia against Spartak Moscow, so this also made it their first appearance together from the start of a game at Anfield, but Salah was the star.
