What The Hell Happened; A lot of lads in the pub where I watched the Game had Lots to say about it.

Sevilla 3-3 Liverpool: Reds suffer bizarre Champions League capitulation in Spain
Jack Lusby
Match Report
21 November 2017

Liverpool endured a game of two halves as they saw a three-goal lead slip as they were held to a 3-3 draw away to Sevilla in the Champions League.

Sevilla 3-3 Liverpool

Champions League Group E, Matchday 5, Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan

Goals
Firmino 2′ (assist – Wijnaldum)
Mane 22′ (assist – Firmino)
Firmino 30′ (assist – Mane)
Ben Yedder 51′ (assist – Banega)
Ben Yedder 60′ (pen)
Pizarro 90+3′

The Reds took to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Tuesday night looking to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Flying to Andalusia knowing that three points against Sevilla would be enough to progress, Jurgen Klopp‘s side will have been determined to extend their winning run to five games.
Buoyed by consecutive victories over Huddersfield Town, Maribor, West Ham and Southampton, and a raft of returning absentees, the Reds headed down the tunnel with a formidable lineup.
Klopp made just two changes to the side that won 3-0 at home to the Saints on Saturday, including the return of Joe Gomez.
Having drawn with Sevilla back in September, Liverpool’s midweek jaunt was set up to be a tough contest, and it certainly proved to be.

After the U19s scored within 30 seconds in their 4-0 win over Sevilla earlier in the afternoon, the Reds got off to the perfect start at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

With Philippe Coutinho sending in a swinging corner, Georginio Wijnaldum nodded the ball across the box for Roberto Firmino to fire home at the far post and make it 1-0 after just 88 seconds.

The Reds were cut open twice in quick succession on the 20-minute mark, with Nolito first denied by an excellent save by Loris Karius, while Wissam Ben Yedder somehow skewed wide shortly after.
Jordan Henderson sent Firmino on the break minutes later, but the Brazilian was denied his second of the night by a strong save from Sergio Rico.
From that corner, however, Liverpool extended their lead, with Sadio Mane finding the back of the net with a diving header in a carbon copy of the first goal.

The two goalscorers combined on the half-hour to put the Reds even further ahead, with Mane’s effort on the break pushed into the path of Firmino for a no-look finish and 3-0 at the break.

Alberto Moreno, ever-present for Liverpool in the Champions League this season, endured a hit-and-miss night on his return to his former club.
It was the Spanish left-back who conceded a sloppy free-kick six minutes into the second half, allowing Ever Banega to whip the ball in for Ben Yedder to glance into the far corner.
And Moreno was again in the thick of it as his poor touch led to a foul on Ben Yedder in the penalty area, with the Frenchman stepping up to reduce the deficit further.

Klopp responded by withdrawing both Moreno and Coutinho, sending on James Milner and Emre Can in their places in an attempt to shore things up in both midfield and defence and secure the victory.

The Reds slowly got back into the game, and Mohamed Salah found himself with a good chance on 70 minutes, with the Egyptian’s effort blocked for a corner.
Mane was then in a great position to put the game beyond doubt as Can was sent through, but Banega charged back to make a fine stop as the German clipped in his cross.
The Senegalese was subject of a penalty shout late on, but Sevilla had the last laugh, with Guido Pizarro smashing home a loose ball from a corner to seal a 3-3 draw.

Hi Paul,

I have never seen anything like it, the 2nd half was an absolute disaster and Liverpool played like some southern league team not top professionals.

Saw Klops interview after the game and i could see the dissapointment on his face, even he couldnt put a positive spin on that game.

We went from looking like we were going to win that game on a thrashing status to nearly losing it

Chelsea on saturday OMG!! lets hope they can produce a miracle then

Lack of leadership and the need for consistency – 5 talking points from Sevilla 3-3 Liverpool
Karl MatchettKarl Matchett

21 November 2017
Liverpool should be celebrating reaching the last 16 of the Champions League, but instead let a 3-0 lead slip to draw 3-3 at Sevilla on Tuesday.

Jurgen Klopp named a strong side for the trip to Sevilla, making just two changes to the weekend team, and it looked to be paying off in style as Liverpool roared into a 3-0 lead at the break.

A goal in 82 seconds from Roberto Firmino set the Reds on the right path, before Sadio Mane scored almost a carbon copy for 2-0.

Mane’s shot was then saved and Firmino finished for a third before the break and it seemed as though the points would be wrapped up in style, but a second-half collapse meant the Reds had to settle for a point.

Wissam Ben Yedder scored twice, the second from the penalty spot, before Guido Pizarro scuffed home an injury-time equaliser.

Here are five talking points from the match at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

I'm a fan and in short Klopp over achieved to get us in the champ lge so he has credit in the bank with me. But i am frustrated that he plays moreno/let sakho go to Palace and not improve our defence by either buying quality or how he prefers to work with the shape of the team.
Also he has moved us on from the Carra/Gerrard era and those types of leaders just dont seem to be about anymore. The attacking signings have been good and the defensive signings have been poor except Matip has done ok. Wont win anything with our defence im affraid. Cant judge Robertson yet as hardly had a kick so was he a Klopp signing or comittee who got him in.
January will be interesting.

Indeed TW35, Failure to get our Defence right during the summer signings is showing up now,
And needs urgent attention.
Good to be back in European Football, But without a strong defence, the gain is being lost.
And welcome to our Fan Club corner TW35 B)

LIVERPOOL 1 - Chelsea 1
Fluke goal equals frustration for Liverpool as psychological advantage is lost

Steven Scragg (Opinion) 26 November 2017

Distinctly second best in the first half, an improved Liverpool came close to winning the game in the second half. Steven Scragg reckons it would be bare faced cheek to feel frustrated at sharing the points against Chelsea. Nothing wrong with a bit of bare faced cheek though…

Jurgen Klopp gambled against Chelsea and it almost brought three points.
His starting line-up provoked a few raised eyebrows, arguably more so thanks to those he left out than those he selected to play.

In a week when he made noises of moving on, to boost his chances of going to the World Cup, Daniel Sturridge was the surprise starter in this one.
65 minutes but no discernible chances falling his way made it a no-win situation for him. As performances go, it will be largely forgotten.

Momentum is everything for Sturridge, but for far too much of his time at Liverpool, his availability has been fragmented. Sturridge is available to play most games now, but he just isn’t seen as a viable piece of Klopp’s jigsaw.

When he played and scored against Huddersfield, following that up with a goal from the bench against Maribor, Sturridge was in danger of finding some momentum. He viewed the next three games from the sidelines, as an unused substitute.

More Salah goals and good rotation from Klopp – 5 talking points from Stoke 0-3 Liverpool
Karl Matchett

29 November 2017
Liverpool produced a strong performance to see off Stoke City and move back up to fifth place in the Premier League on Wednesday night.[/i]

Jurgen Klopp continued to rotate his side as the Reds entered a busy period of the season, handing starts to the likes of Emre Can, Dom Solanke and the fit-again Dejan Lovren.

The personnel changes meant a system switch for Liverpool too, with a 4-4-2 paying early dividends as the Reds dominated possession and created chances aplenty.

Sadio Mane clipped home the opening goal after Stoke appealed that the cut-back from Joe Gomez had gone out of play, with Solanke feeding it through for Mane to finish.

Solanke and Mane both missed glorious chances to double the lead, either side of Simon Mignolet being booked for taking down Mame Diouf right on the edge of the box—thankfully just outside—and it remained 1-0 at the break.

A tense second half flowed back and forth, but the introduction of Mohamed Salah was key: he hammered in a thunderous volley from Mane’s cross to double the lead, then ran down the defence to win the ball and slot home the third.

Never see any of the game. Wont lie i was slightly worried seeing the starting line up. A good win and clean sheet but it's not the Stoke of old and Hughes could easily be the next manager to get the sack.

5 - 1 Fantastic Victory for LIVERPOOL

And at Number 4 in the Premier League.
What a fantastic game A Very Happy Paul B)

“They are right up there with Man City” – Chris Hughton praises Liverpool after Brighton win
Jack Lusby; 2 December 2017

Chris Hughton compared Liverpool’s attacking prowess to that of Premier League leaders Man City after the Reds’ 5-1 win at Brighton on Saturday.

Liverpool blitzed the Seagulls to ensure one of their biggest wins of the season, making light work of a previously formidable defensive side.
The key factor behind this was the Reds’ fearsome forward line, with their ability to transition encapsulated in Roberto Firmino‘s second of the night.
After Simon Mignolet made a stunning save to deny Glenn Murray, Liverpool surged up the field through Mohamed Salah, who fed Firmino to convert.
And speaking at the Amex Stadium after the game, Hughton labelled the Reds as the best side Brighton have faced so far, and compared their attacking quality to that of Man City.

“If you play at the level we played today and make the mistakes [we did] against a team of the quality of Liverpool [you will lose],” he told reporters.
“Offensively they are right up there with Manchester City, because of the pace that they can attack [with].

“You’ve got be very guarded against that, and that probably becomes the biggest priority in the game, making sure you nullify the strengths that they’ve got.
“Certainly even the third goal, we’ve had arguably the best chance of the game through Glenn Murray and less than a minute later they’re at the other end scoring.
“So it’s a harsh lesson today, and we certainly have to be able to learn from that.”
