Anyone interested in the debacle that is Universal Credit is being debated today at 1:45pm the commons parliament channel 232. It`s been announced already that the helpline for UC will not be FREE to call after Gauke and his team were repeatedly questioned over the charges claimants faced. Something that should always have been free to use anyway so a small victory, none the less.

Universal Credit seems here to stay regardless of any small amendments made to it. Slowing it down or halting it for new claimants until it`s faults are ironed out seems sensible, but whether it will happen.....who knows.

UC is not a debacle. It is a huge success for all the fake training companies owned by Tory donors. It is not meant to work by design. It will cost the taxpayer more than JSA but the government will claim it as a success because they have the media on their side

The UC helpline will be free to call starting next month. That is a good start with the many reforms needed. UC should be scrapped but they will keep it going.

They need to scrap the outrageous lengthy sanctions and just make them a small one-time monetary fine, too.

Been listening into the lengthy debate this afternoon and it seems many of the Tory MP`s won`t be voting this evening according to some journalists, so the outcome to `halt` UC looks doomed before it even starts. But the free calls line is a start. Sanctions should NOT even be part of UC. If they are serious about `helping` people with one-to-one coaches and really making a difference, conditionality by sanctioning people isn`t the best way to do it.

Well after a thorough listening to all that TORY drivel yesterday its very clear they are the arrogant self serving pigs some people have them down as.

Universal Credit helps people and encourages people into work :cheer: .

Erggggggh NO!!
Universal Credit helps "forces" people into low paid temporary work leading to debt rent arrears and a bundle of worry.

Nearly 8 Million people in low paid jobs wages being topped up by the state.
The TORYS just want to whip the unemployed into submission "any job is better than no job never mind the hell it will cause you if you take it."

All this bullshit is to appease the deluded hard working; working hard, hard working working hard, poor tax payer until the people who are currently in what some may call decently paid work, lets just say for an example 20k a year keeping things modest;if that person ever loses their job they will see the TORY loony party for what they are.

Well, why they even bothered to vote yesterday in the commons on the motion to half UC seems to have been a waste of time according to some as the Tory MP`s and back benchers didn`t even bother to vote! It was 299 to 0 in opposition! So a humiliation for the government AND UC....but it seems (so far) that nothing has changed or been announced by the government, so it seems for now that UC will continue to be rolled out? If anyone hears anything please post.

Seems they didn`t bother to vote because they were `ordered` not to. Fear of being defeated (which they were) but more importantly, the fact that MP`s can be paid to do a job and not submit their time and thoughts on a topic that is so in need of change it makes the voter feel let down. It`s no wonder we feel useless when a conservative government can do what the hell they please and other opposition MP`s are also being told, your vote doesn`t matter, we don`t care. The speaker John Berkow didn`t seem too happy with the outcome either, but he has no powers to change anything.

It`s a farcical lie Verc and the public vote for it time and time again. At least with the SNP, we have a leader who knows what Westminster are all about and is trying her best to dent their little party.

Further debate today on Universal Credit roll out on live TV freeview parliament channel 232 at 12:30pm. Lets hope it`s announcing reducing the payment delays from 6 weeks to 4. Or better still, admitting the system is flawed and halting it altogether. Lets see what happens later...
