This definitely is glamorising the have`s and the have-nots. I`ve always been a philanthropic type of person myself even though I will never have the millions this guy has, I will always give a tenner to someone I meet if I overhear them saying they can`t pay for their heating or just happen to be speaking to someone who is struggling. Being in the welfare system makes us see others in the same mirror. This programme is all about a man who has it all, made money from buying cheap and renting high no doubt and wants his one hour of TV fame being seen as some kind of saviour.

Having made his own wealth through financial deals this guy is looking for somebody with a work ethic. I detect a slight sense of irony in this tale.

However much this bloke might have worked before going into the property trade it just shows the difference you can make by working smart rather than hard. I aren't saying that nobody paid well doesn't work hard for it but how many wealthy manual workers do any of us know?

Giving a flat to somebody who has grafted rather than a less successful/lucky rival. Part of me suspects this could be a direct reposte to the 'On Benefits Street and Proud' type programmes so common in recent years but I will resist making the assumption that any dolies are automatically excluded and descriminated against due to their current social status (as many of them also have strong work ethics in a failing jobs market and are there through no fault of their own). Rather looking at it a different way though, does this maybe also reveal a slight sense of guilt because the work ethic alone does not put food on the table as will no doubt be shown by the difficulty that the chosen one currently finds themself in.

So you work all your life and can only afford a nice big flat thanks to the kindness of others whilst the next guy who buys and sells becomes vastly wealthy over the same period by doing little else than moving money around. An endorsement, maybe his actual motive to show that the system is well and truly rotten (just my own wee biased viewpoint of course). Maybe he is planning on standing as a local MP, they love free publicity via their mates in the media which is more of an ugly truth.

And if it is so bad that this person/family is only going to get a home of their own in this manner then maybe handing over a full block of flats or small row of houses (better still old factory houses like the one I used to live in - erm functional is the word) with a corner shop and trial run of a UBI rather than pinning everything on the conduct of an individual person or family would be a better way of leading by example and giving a section of a community a fighting chance just to show our politicians how things could be.

Property developer Marco Robinson has previously participated in a similar version of the show over in the US.

Well one person got the property. Someone else was given a deposit for a property. The refugees were given a rent free place until the legalities were over.
I'm not sure how I feel about it, but at least all those featured got something.

Having watched the programme, I felt that he did highlight the problems people face nowadays from private renting to being homeless which came across very well. I came away from the show feeling a bit better about what I saw. He didn`t discriminate or come across as someone who fits that millionaire suit. He done well for himself as Verc said earlier, from working hard and using his knowledge well. I suppose being a risk taker is part of that too and not everyone would have that drive. I was pleased with the outcome (I had a feeling the single mum would win!) but at the same time, it showed just how easy it would be for people in his position to stand up for equality and perhaps use his status to manipulate those who just don`t give a toss while they sit in their ivory towers knowing there are many people out there in desperate need.

Having a roof over our heads is vital. Social housing is dire and government are saying one thing and doing another. In other words, lying well to keep the media happy and not fulfilling the promise to build AFFORDABLE rented houses.

I thought the 'hard working' lady with sight problems may have got it while watching it.

Just goes to show eh? Working hard and having a disability doesn`t always win you the prize. That young mother must think her fairy god mother has arrived! Good luck to her and her baby and I`m sure being near her mother close by will be a boost for her too. Such a shame though that on todays news they are saying homelessness is going to get worse....and we know bloody why.

I think being 5 minutes away from her mum would be better than owning property for her. :cheer:
