Theresa May has announced a snap general election in a statement outside Downing Street.
She made the announcement immediately following a meeting of her Cabinet.

Just 7 weeks to general election. Couldn't come at a worse time for Labour, another 5 years of this right wing tory government! What hope do we have?

I am thinking the same Dizzy. Labour not united and the Lib Dems screaming that only they can prevent a Tory majority. Where have we heard that before eh? I`m not getting too excited because if the Tories lie their way into people`s heads, they will win again and that means more hell for people like us.

Yeah, this is a bit worrying. No doubt the Tory attack dogs, BBC, YouGov, Sky, CNN and such like will be unleashed once again to tear Corbyn's Labour to shreds while painting a rosy picture of the most corrupt government I have seen in my life.

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that the Tory and Media corruption is so far gone that were never going to recover.

Looks like a ploy to cement Tory power. Hoping Corbyn's still too unpopular to win. I can only hope the huge swathe of unemployed, disabled and working poor they've been trying to murder for the last 7 years are sensible enough to vote corbyn, even if they don't like him it's better than this lot.

Unfortunately while many want rid of the Tories the votes will be split between labour, lib dem and unfortunately UKIP while Tory faithful will vote Tory again leaving us with the same mess we have now a 32% majority beating the other 68% for daring to vote against them

She ain't daft that's for sure. Labour will now be in a panic, just a few weeks to try and win over support to their side they haven't got a chance in hell. . It'll be interesting to see how much inner conflict within the Labour party will increase, making a Tory landslide fecking well inevitable....

Aye if only people could see through all that and just vote sensibly. Unfortunately there'll be too much "but look at them they're in chaos" with very little "I'd be panicking too if I had 7 weeks to do something that usually takes several months with precisely sod all warning"

It will all come down to people getting off their backsides and VOTING rather than staying at home thinking they can`t win anyway so what`s the point? Even if they do vote and lose, at least they can say they tried. Even a coalition between Labour and the Lib Dems would be better than an all out Tory majority. In Scotland we are a bit stuck however as the SNP could be on the ballot paper and I`m an SNP supporter, so can`t vote for Labour if that`s the case. If the SNP as a party are not on the ballot paper, I will vote for Mr Corbyn just because I think the man would make those changes we are looking for over time. He won a large majority TWICE, yet his own party just can`t use their brains and get behind him. Bloody idiots because now look what`s happened.... he needs to get out there and rally the troops!

Tim Farron leader of the Lib Dems is on TV right now saying this is an opportunity for the British people to change direction. Lets take it.

What a rush, maybe Tory Election fraud cases are coming to a head.

Will vote Corbyn but don't think he will win.

If Tories get in with a bigger majority it is going to scary.

People are scared about Brexit and don't want any more change, that is the impression I get from talking to people on the street, people don't realise Austerity is not needed.

I think Labour are doomed in Scotland anyway given their second place behind the SNP was snatched away by the Tories at the last Scottish elections, so it will be down to the English, Welsh & N/Irish to vote for Corbyn. They may do better this time around in Scotland as far as votes go as it`s a general election, but just have to wait and see. Lets hope if it`s a close call, that Labour and the other parties can do a deal to keep the Tories OUT.

Remember the polls at the previous election, and how utterly wrong they were? Supposed to have been a close run election but Labour were hammered. So, if this time the polls say a Tory landslide, can always hope they're totally wrong again!

In the New Statesman recently George Eaton said that Crosby has told Theresa May that private polling suggests the Tories will lose most of the 27 seats they gained from the Lib Dems two years ago in an early election.

I think what`s happened here is May (or the people who control her within parliament) have seen the recent polls and decided they can`t fail if they call an election early knowing that they are in a strong position to win. But what they don`t know is what those people who were not polled are thinking and that`s millions of people. I hope I wake up on the Friday morning on the 9th of June to hear of a shock victory for Labour or at least, a failure of a majority for the Conservatives to have a full majority. But then that could also mean they `do a deal` with another party like bloody UKIP to gain those extra seats. That would be just as bad.

I can't see anything other than perpetual right-wing governments being the norm now in this country. With the selling off of council houses and encouraging share-ownership Thatcher managed to convince many of the working class that they were really Tories after all.

That mindset is alive and well today, a family member - who is on a low wage and works in retail - says most of the people he works with vote Tory, think Corbyn's a nutter and socialism is some kind of biblical plague.

There used to be a wonderful animated puke icon at one forum I used to visit some time ago; I need that right now at the thought of another five years of the Tories.....

There is talk of a general election being called early in the expectation that the CPS will prosecute 24 Tory MP's for election fraud

I hope so !

I just want to see their faces if they lose when they thought they would win by a landslide. Lazarus, I got that impression too about Corbyn having a Jesus like following, but then, I remember watching a Top Gear episode one evening a few years ago when the singer James Blunt was a guest on the show and he told of the members on Twitter goading him that he only had something like 10,000 followers and laughing at him. James replied by saying, well Jesus only had seven! (meaning deciples) !!!!

So they may think Mr Corbyn is not capable of gaining enough Labour votes. I wouldn`t be too sure.

I'd love to see this wretched government sent packing too CoD but there's no chance of this happening at the moment and if Labour do lose a substantial number of seats - as they're projected too - then that'll probably be the end of Corbyn as leader.

We Have 50 Days To Win A Labour Government. Let's Use Them

APR 2017 Tuesday 18TH posted by Morning Star in Editorial

The Conservative record in office is one of disaster for this country – and Labour's policies are consistently popular. We need to get the message out
WE HAVE 50 days until the country goes to the polls in an early general election.

That means 50 days to win a majority in favour of halting the disastrous course the Conservatives are charting out for Britain.

Theresa May’s logic is obvious. She knows she has a tiny majority in the Commons and this could cramp her style as she seeks to use Brexit negotiations to bargain away workers’ rights and control over our own economy in return for access favours for the City of London.

She is acutely aware that Labour, many of whose MPs have spent most of the last 19 months publicly attacking their own leader and whipping up non-existent scandals to undermine him, trails in the polls and is seen as unacceptably divided by much of the population.

May is already claiming a democratic mission — fulfilling the will of the people as expressed in the EU referendum — which only a re-elected Tory government will undertake.

This will be the narrative from Downing Street. But they must not be allowed to get away with it.

The Conservatives have presided over the longest fall in living standards for over a century. Wages have been falling for a decade and are not projected to rise in real terms until 2022.

On their watch poverty has soared. Foodbanks, barely a feature of the economic landscape before 2010, handed out over 1.1 million emergency food packages last year, even more than in 2015.

Nearly one in three children live in poverty, with half a million more kids in absolute poverty than when the Tories entered office. The number is still rising.

Don't say Cannot Win, or you and our Country has lost,
Say We CAN WIN, then do everything you can to get this Un-Elected woman OUT, and an elected Labour Government IN.

I like the Labour chancellor John McDonnel. He comes across as a sensible chap and speaks plain English. Why anyone would vote Tory again unless they have a house in Belgravia and a Rolls Royce parked beside it, the masses could win this for Labour. But listening to some of the public views on this on the news last night made my blood boil though. Anyone asked their opinion mostly agreed that the Tories were right to call an election and that they were best placed to run the country. What chance do we have with a mindset like that? Why are people so like sheep that they just follow one line of lies?
