Anyone who has started taking illegal substances usually do it as a laugh or to drown their sorrows, not knowing that the chemicals in these drugs affect the brain and the central nervous system. I`ve been on a few drugs (legally prescribed) that have had terrible side effects, especially one when I tried to stop taking it. So goodness knows what cocaine or heroine do to people who inject it or get so addicted to it that their body would literally shut down on them in a terrible way if they gave it up without medical assistance. I used to work as a medical receptionist back in the late 90`s/early 2000 and some addicts (methadone users) would come in to see a GP and I always knew they were on something just by the way they slurred their speech, but they always were polite and nice people to speak to. Some of the non addiction patients were the opposite!

The word `help` is always used by government aimed at prevention or to wean addicts off the drugs they are addicted to. They seem to think this is an easy task. It`s nothing of the kind. Many of these people are genuinely good people who have made the mistake of falling under the control of addiction and can`t see a way out. They feel trapped, or don`t think they can ever change their ways. Some can, while others will fail. Having any kind of addiction should not bar someone from receiving welfare payments.

The only thing that this crazy Australian plan will do is Dramatically Increase Crime;
If you Don't have cash what else can you do; We Have "Food Banks" but so far don't Have "Drug Banks"
I'm Very Glad im Permanently excluded from entry into Australia, Horrabal Country, The Unemployed persons worst nightmare.

Australia seem to have this work/life balance if your a qualified professional like a teacher, mechanic, GP etc....but if you don`t work or are in the poorer minority, all you can look forward to is the weather and getting by as best you can. If the snakes and bloody spiders don`t get you first! The aboriginal indigenous people are treated like shit. Yet they founded the country and like the native America Indians, are now marginalised by commercialism/globalism.

Don't think you would get away with a drink before appointments now. They would send you on a mandatory course on alcohol abuse!

More ontopic. I was shocked to see a recent job advert saying that drug testing was compulsary.
Toads - Philip Larkin
Why should I let the toad work, Squat on my life?
Can't I use my wit as a pitchfork And drive the brute off?
Six days of the week it soils,With its sickening poison -
Just for paying a few bills! That's out of proportion...

It`s the babies being born now I feel sorry for. The poor wee buggers don`t know what`s in line for them. Dragged to school before they are 5 (mandatory), then leave school (sign on and be controlled for the rest of your days) or if a student, in debt for the rest of your days.....Glad I didn`t have any kids. I wouldn`t dream of it now given what we know. Life is a survival not a pleasure anymore unless you have money.
