This is exactly what the system is, a judicial system. Guilty of not complying with what they want results in sanctions that are basically a punishment for not being a criminal, but failing to meet their idealistic criteria. Looking for work seems not enough now. It`s all about monitoring claimants and offering nothing positive. Now we have Universal Credit, the big brother system that reels you in and forever seeks to catch you out.

Not to mention that the unpaid work we are regularly forced to do is a lot more hours than courts give for community service sentences!
Toads - Philip Larkin
Why should I let the toad work, Squat on my life?
Can't I use my wit as a pitchfork And drive the brute off?
Six days of the week it soils,With its sickening poison -
Just for paying a few bills! That's out of proportion...

It`s not right that because people don`t have a job that they are seen as something negative to punish. I often have dark thoughts (probably stupidly) about what the future holds for welfare, social housing, where I might be in five years from now if I`m still alive.....the system being as it is now and seemingly not getting any less bullying, where is it all leading to I wonder? I get my housing benefit paid as many other benefit claimants do and I think to myself, what if this is ever changed or removed? Will the system ever be so radical that they will remove certain basic elements like having a roof over our heads because we can`t pay unless the system helps? With JSA being eradicated and Universal Credit taking over, more private initiatives creeping in to run government policies and schemes, caps on welfare and the continual stripping back of our rights.

I`m a firm believer that when things are really bad, they can and do get better with time. But the welfare state is something we must fight for and stop it evolving into something monstrous.

Housing Benefits are Being Cut Now, what with Benefit caps and The Bedroom Tax, In the private Rental market around 2/3rds of your rent is paid; Forcing millions into 1 Room lets or bed-sits,
Cuts to Council Tax relief is also hitting hard, In another 5 years, I dread to think what the situation will be if current trends cont. :(
