Came across this article on my travels,
www.theguardian.com/public-leaders-network/2017/sep/23/jobseekers-barriers-to-work-coach-universal-credit-dwp

Tick and turn is new phrase on me but I can safely say it is exactly my experience at my local JCP for at least a year.

I noticed a change attitude and a sense of everything was not right at the JCP offices when I was told to not come in to sign on, I had been excused for the following session they have not enough staff to deal with all the customers.

Now my JCP has moved I have been told I am excused for a further four weeks and when I go back I will be on a group information session (GIS).

This is just a sneaky way for them to sign a large group of us at the same time, due to staff shortages, I have done it before and got chucked off it because I used the time to disagree with everything the Work coach said and took it upon myself to remind my fellow job seekers information they would not like us to know.

Turned out to be more a group information session on how to defend against the punitive regime.

I knew there was no lawful reason for me to do anything than sign on, I was not notified in the proper manner with a letter detailing what the session is and so on therefore I was unable to make a reasonable decision and GIS are voluntary you cannot be mandated or receive a sanction for not participating, the work coach does not know that, so I will be having some more fun and use it as a platform to say my piece again knowing with absolute certainty that I cannot be penalised in anyway shape or form.
When I just walk out on ocassions the look of shock on their faces is priceless, I am sure they think they have more powers of detention than the police at times.

Good on you dboy. The best way to play these things is to have their up to date guidelines on group sessions, why you are asked to attend and whether attending is mandatory. If it isn`t, then anyone there should have the option to leave. Especially if the guidelines say they are not directed or mandated to be there!

I will be meeting my work coach shortly and it will give me a chance to see who is around the office and if anything has changes since last year as I`ve been having telephone interviews. Hope this isn`t her saying I will have to attend now rather than have telephone chats, but I can always bring that up with her I suppose.

Edited to add quote from the article:
Work coaches have been taken out of the office for training and often they are not replaced.

My work coach told me this but thankfully, it`s her I am seeing again, but it`s worrying that `some` work coaches know what is happening and can`t do anything to remedy it. Those higher up are the ones piling the pressure on and they are managed by government and we all know who that is. May and her idiotic government refusing to bend.

Work coaches have been taken out of the office for training and often they are not replaced.
Yet you would think the number of doubts raised and Sanctions would be decreasing but that is not the case, according to the latest figures they in fact on the increase again after a steady decline.

Having a doubt raised on your claim can have the same impact as a full on Sanction in the short term.

There have been 4.5 million decisions in total under the new rules since October 2012
www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/661218/benefit-sanctions-statistics-to-june-2017.pdf

2.1 million for JSA alone.

47% of those doubts were cancelled or not upheld.

It is no wonder they are on the rise again, work coaches have limited time to see someone, they are told if in doubt raise a doubt..

Well they cannot complain if they set up a GIS and somebody like you contributed information to the session as that was the purpose, claimants were given information and a result was achieved - probably improved their productivity rate ten fold.

Putting it like that maybe I should see if I can get on the payroll.

I did consider setting myself as a mystery claimant, contract myself to the DWP and its providers to help improve the services and staff training.

Would be a fantastic job for me, I would wake up in the morning with a huge grin on my face thats for sure.

I have, after all, 30 plus years experience of the dhss and dwp system, not many Work Coaches can say that
