I've been put on a TCHC course from the jobcentre. It's for seven hours a day, two days a week for the next month. I've been informed that this will get me a job as they have "contacts".
It sounds like the usual crap to me, but just wondered if anyone else has been subjected to it.
Happy Easter everyone!

I see our `European funding` is still happening. Whatever you do, don`t fall for the `self employment` route as Universal Credit hammers people who are self employed. Enjoy the ride, but ask questions and proof of everything.

Its very strange to me that a Government who Promoted Selth Employment for many years, now hammers everyone who has gone down that route in recent years.
I was selth Employed from around 1980 up until 2009; when the S*** hit the fan; Never again :(

I thought about going self employed for a long time holding off in the hope things would improve but they have just got so scary I struggle to understand why anybody bothers anymore.

Hi Dizzy,

Sorry you've been roped into this pile of crap.

I'd ask them as to exactly who these so called contacts are and what stats have they on the percentage of people who have actually managed to find employment through attendendance of this numpty course.

If they cant show in a technical way that this is a reasonable request being made to you taking your circumstances fully into account, write to your MP and make it clear to them, what a pile of crap this all is.Further, what a waste of taxpayers money as all their doing is effectively making you go on a course for ideological bureaucratic ideas.

they love using the word "reasonable" so ask then to define that and apply that to your own circumstances :) .

Always can do a sicky :) ,that will put a hole in their course and will have to wait until it starts again to rebook you.I am guessing for these types of courses they run weekly, listening to the phone conversations in their highly private office cubicles down at joke shop  ,many are being sent on them.

Good luck Dizzy and let us know how this all goes if you end up going.

Thanks Jobber. I was told all the info about the course will be emailed to me, but it's no surprise to find that I haven't received anything from them, except oddly an automated phone call telling me to attend the appointment tomorrow!
I will try and get out of it if I can, but sometimes it's easier to just go along with it to avoid a sanction. I've got a particularly evil minded bitch of an advisor, think of a cross between Thatcher and May and you've got her!
I'll let you know how I get on, I'll try to keep my sense of humour, I'm not going to let them get me down anymore!

Hi Dizzy,

Hope all goes well for you if you do decide to attend and that its not too stressful in anyway.

If you feel really stressed just phone them 1st thing as well as UC and explain you are unwell.

They will ask something stupid like when will you feel better and you reply...when i do :cheer:

Really doesn't help having a nasty roach, dont know your full situation but realize you are the best person to decide if to go through with this.
Will look forward to hearing about your adventures as i feel i am up very soon to attend some crappy course.

One thing i would do is play very difficult with them if they have power hats on at this course.

Numpty provider companies are usually just that and a bunch of jumped up jobsworths walking around the place with ID badges on and aluminum coffee cup holders thinking their some kind of investment banker :cheer:

A friend of mine went to a course recently near me that went on for 2 weeks and she had a very irregular shall we say toilet pattern like needed it 20 times a day caused big disruption to the class but what can you do   :) idea! ?

Then there is the portable sick bag thing :cheer: always at hand just in case tell them, usually gets them focused.
Maybe some makeup to look as white as a ghost ;)

As long as you are participating to the best of your "circumstances" sod all they can do.

And here they have fell at the first hurdle. So this is something I would bring up first thing when you arrive. Maybe it`s because they determine that you will attend regardless of knowing what the course entails because in their mind, if you don`t arrive or participate, they have the means to then flag this up with your work coach, so why should they bother giving you any insight before you attend? because they know you have been sent there by the powers that be, that`s why and they will know the consequences for you if you refuse.

Dizzy wrote: but sometimes it's easier to just go along with it to avoid a sanction

Absolutely Dizzy. And I don`t say that to sound like a lilly. I`m very aware that agreeing to do a few days here and there can even give you the ammunition to record what goes on, what you do there and if the end result is a dead end, you can then draw this excersize like a gun if your coach offers you similar things in the next year saying that you got nothing from the last one you attended and they are literally, wasting YOUR time!

And as jobber suggested:
One thing i would do is play very difficult with them if they have power hats on at this course.

And don`t be afraid to refuse access to things like your UJM account or anything else that`s private.

I went yesterday fully armed with the many mickey mouse certificates from the multiple courses I've been on, to prove that I've done it all before. The woman running it daid she couldn't do anything and I'd need to see my advisor. Well, I knew what her take would be on it, so I will give it a go. It turns our that it was just the induction yesterday and the actual course starts next week, plus it's only for 5 1/2 hrs each day, which seems a lot better.
It is the usual crap though and the "contacts" are just a job agency! I expect it's one I'm already registered with too.
The whole thing is just about control and making us miserable, as well, of course about fleecing the tax payers to make the rich richer!
One victim there was a few months from retirement and he was on the work programme with Ingeus as well as this course. How is that a good use of public funds?
We also had to do the literacy and numeracy tests, I couldn't help laughing as the whole situation is so ridiculous.
We had to fill in a form with a long list of things that we needed their help with, I just ticked none on all of them, as I didn't see a thing that would've been useful for me.
Anyway, I'll give it a go and if I get fed up I'll go sick!

That`s exactly what this is Dizzy. Bums on seats. Kidding claimants that attending will help them to find a job when the reality is, they are just repeat & rinsing what people have done many times.

Find out who they are Dizzy. Chances are you are already on their contact list. Living in areas where there is a high volume of zero hours and temporary contracts, this is possibly just another way of netting those looking for a job into one place to be farmed out. I live in an area where jobs are either non existent or very few. The drivel that is left are usually fought after by everyone signing on and most won`t even get a reply.

No doubt the numeracy test had 1 +1 on it.:-O
Make sure you don't deliberately fail the course as I was on one last year and the tutor said if you don't pass the course you will get a sanction

I`d like to see them try that one with me! I remember being asked to do a form question/answer tick box thing when on the work programme. I was shown to a small room to sit on my own and go through the questions. Things like, `if your bus was due at 10:00am and didn`t arrive until 10:08am, how many minutes have passed? So cat sat on the matt stuff generally. The only one I couldn`t figure out was a question relating to the area of a room and calculating the square metres or something like that. Didn`t bother me at all as I just told the advisor I never did comprehend such things and was taught to measure in feet and inches! And I never trained to be a carpet fitter either!

But seriously, telling someone they would be sanctioned for `failing` a test, rather than deliberately refusing to try are different things. So what you do here is your best attempt at it. Don`t give a fig about not being 100% accurate. I`m in my 50`s and still can`t go through the 12 times tables without falling on my face, but I blame that on the poor education I received when AT school. I don`t intend to learn now. Life skills are not based around being able to know a few sums. Where I fail on maths, I gain in having graphic design skills. Not sure someone good at maths could be expected to design corporate identity.

Catwoman, i can't believe this moron said that  ,if so i hope you kicked up one hell of a stink about that nice individual.

There is nothing in any regulation i am aware of they can apply to this mentality of "failing to pass maths test etc ."

Not everyone is good at maths, good or not, as long as they have participated to the best of "their ability," joke centre will be stuffed.
I plan on returning many times to this course to keep them all happy, and take them to a tribunal if needed if they take the piss and apply a sanction.
The morons are wasting taxpayers money by sending people on these go nowhere courses in the first place, and abuse of position springs to mind.

I myself are totally useless with maths so will fail splendidly :) just let someone try that line on me thy used on you, their get more than a sanction. :)

Dizzy wrote:"I was told all the info about the course will be emailed to me, but it's no surprise to find that I haven't received anything from them,

On this basis alone i would not have gone.

If they are making people attend such facial courses and can't be bothered to carry out the correct procedure to make them attend i would not have gone  .

I know somewhere there is some crap about how they make things mandatory! and it maybe different now that verbally telling you at an appointment is good enough.
I would argue i wanted to see what was involved in the course, and how it was likely to benefit me,if you can show it seriously wont;then a strong letter to your MP would not go a miss with how they are frittering away tax payers money for bums on seats.

As another poster describes this,as just a way of trying to piss people off and sign off.

Is there anyone who has actually kicked up while on these courses Dizzy?

How long do they last, hours per day ? days per week ?

would love to know to prepare myself as to if i actually go will be another thing.

Would be great if you could post us some or all of the maths questions involved so we can finish in 5 and say see ya :cheer:

Talking of pointless courses, has anyone else got one of those letters at the beginning of April. When is all this going to start?

Dear claimant,
Please be advised that the Jobcentres in your area have been selected to participate in a range of courses under the following heading:

COMPREHENSIVE. OBLIGATORY. NECESSARY. [C.O.N.]

The DWP, in furtherance of Government policy concerning the training and conditioning of those groups that it has categorised as Socially Constricted, Under-employed Malingerers [S.C.U.M.], propose to introduce a scheme called “Specific High Intensity Training” [S.H.I.T.] to increase the level of competence and awareness of those groups.

Although the Department is proud of its record of giving those groups much more S.H.I.T than it, or any other Department, has ever done in the past, it feels that it could do more. To that end, the Department is committed to ensuring that in future there will be no limits put on the amount of S.H.I.T. those groups may receive.

If you have been designated as a member of any of the specified groups and feel that you have not been receiving enough [S.H.I.T.] it behoves you to inform your work coach, who will ensure that you are put in the category; Deserving Extra Effort Programme, Specific High Intensity Training. [D.E.E.P.S.H.I.T.] At this level it is envisaged that you will certainly receive as much as you can handle up to, even exceeding, the limit of your endurance.

Running concurrently with this scheme there will be other schemes that you will be expected to participate in from time to time, for example, Comprehensive Retraining And Pro-active sessions [C.R.A.P.]

Your JCP coach or manager reserves the right to select you and give you as much S.H.I.T. and C.R.A.P. as they see fit.

All coaches/managers are particularly qualified to administer those schemes having attended our Basic Understanding Leadership Lectures - Specific High Intensity Training. [B.U.L.L.S.H.I.T.] courses.

Having received increased S.H.I.T and C.R.A.P. you may be eligible to be classified as a complete Advanced Recipient – Special Extra Help Of Lasting Effectiveness [A.R.S.E.H.O.L.E.] At this level the Department and the staff involved will be considered to have achieved their goal with respect to how much you can take and will be compensated accordingly.

If you have any questions regarding the amount of S.H.I.T. or C.R.A.P. that you are receiving please feel free to address them to the DWP’s Director, Intensity Programming, Specific High Intensity Training, [D.I.P.S.H.I.T.]

Not yet BB but it`s concerning that when one door closes they have another can of worms to open. They say:
"conditioning of those groups"

And that`s exactly what this means. Conditioning of minds. I remember when I finished the two years work programme, I received a letter from my job centre stating I would be doing a six month trial called "Intensive Support Pilot" after the work programme. I thought shit, what are they putting me on now? But all it meant was that I had a meeting with a coach every month for six months! The letter had the same old garble about:

Dear X,
Jobcentre Plus is running a pilot in your area. It is designed to help you after you have left the Work Programme. (and here I am still on ESA)....it went on to say, You have been selected to take part in this pilot for a maximum of six months.

How can this help me?

We know that many people with a health condition or disability want to work ( ) but can find it difficult. (I wonder why....?) Our work coaches are TRAINED SPECIALISTS (in what exactly?) with a great deal of experience and success in helping (there`s that word help again)...people towards work.

And it goes on and on with the usual spiel. I got through that without being shackled to Poundland or other work trial. I try to erase it all from my memory but I do keep all the letters and documents they send me just to keep for histrical value. I may need to produce them as evidence that I have already `taken part` in similar schemes that no doubt are just renamed and rolled out again.

If this is actually for real what the hell are these so called groups "designated as a member of any of the specified groups and feel that you have not been receiving enough [S.H.I.T.] "

will be waiting on post tomorrow as they like us to either fret the week away or send on a friday to try and piss us all off for the weekend.

"Our work coaches are TRAINED SPECIALISTS (in what exactly?)"

I also are bewildered at their description for roaches and all others who are the so called experts with multiple skills base and knowledge covering all unemployed .

The only constructive thing this government and others have come up with for the unemployed is to be-little them as much as they can.

They actually try their hardest to suck what little confidence is within some and then send them on a bloody course for rebuilding confidence.

Total muppets. actually NO! i liked the muppets. :)
