Announced this morning. The Tories know this will be a nail in their coffin so yet again, they are trying to patch it with a sticking plaster that keeps coing away around the edges.

As said in Star Trek the Wrath of Khan, "Beware of Romulans baring gifts". I think what we are seeing is a U turn (of sorts) due to the enormous transparency seen with UC and how it`s introduction by `learning as we go along` approach and used people as guinea pigs which has turned out to be disastrous for many. Staying with the Star Trek theme, it was Spock who said, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few". Something Labour have been using as their slogan.

I don`t really care who wind the next election as long as it`s not the Tories again or they will have taken us further down the path of destruction.

Well, if they are pushing everyone into temp work and on their return they go onto UC they will quickly move a lot of people over.

Frank Field was interviewed on R5L this morning and said that UC is too expensive to cancel and seemed to place more emphasis on making sure people at least had some money coming in instead of these delays in payment and that the planned revision didn't go far enough in this direction. This echoed similar comments from the SNP member on BBC Question Time Thursday night when asked if they would cancel it in Scotland. I reckon this is going to be the other parties' way out of not cancelling but I do recall saying myself just the other day that it might not be as straightforward as some think (to go back to legacy benefits at least as they were). As with many things protested about by opposition parties, they don't always hate whatever policy it is quite so much when they find themselves in office.

I also heard Frank Field on various news outlets yesterday and he was asking that JSA or Housing Benefit etc, should continue to be paid until a UC claim is actually LIVE and that payment is in the claimants account before their legacy benefit is closed. This would make more sense and prevent arrears/food bank use etc...

Now, if UC went like this:

Make your claim, get payment each month on time, find a wee temporary job for 10 hours one month, then the taper rate removes the 67p from those earnings to total what that months final total will be. Everyone`s a winner. Earnings So our earnings go up and down depending on whether we find any work, or not.

BUT...the downside of UC is the constant conditionality, the 35 hours job search, being `required` to attend training or group sessions or any other hell bent notion a work coach may add to our `to do list`. Not to mention the sanctions regime. These are all part of a UC claim and don`t seem to get the same attention in the media as the food banks or the arrears worries, although these are the `red flags` of UC so will get the most attention.

Then there is the national insurance worries for part time workers if not earning over/between a certain level. But that`s another page in the UC catalogue of errors.

"Any positive changes to UC are good news. However, it is too early to celebrate, as the government will probably make just sufficient changes to survive politically whilst retaining the core principles of UC."

Some sobering thoughts on the halt to UC:
