It dawned on me recently that when someone is making a claim for UC online and they are on the first page of the claim site, they are sent a `code` or some sort of `number` by email, which expires after one hour. Is this correct?

According to something I`ve read when your making your online claim, you can`t `save` it and go back to it. So how then if you are sent this email code/number and need to open your email account to check this, how do you do that without having to leave the screen you are on? I`ve never done this and had to close the page I`m on to open my email page, so not sure the best way to link both at the same time?

cant you just open a new window/tab and use ALT+TAB to cycle to the new window ? id assume that's what you would do.

Have never done that Finnster but will need to give it a go. This is what the article said:

After reading this I thought, how the hell do I retrieve this `code` from my email account when I`m still looking at the UC claim screen? Because according to this, you can`t leave the screen and then go back to it, so your suggestion is something I will have to try and then close the email screen again once the code has been retrieved. I`m not making a UC claim (yet) but just making sure I can navigate any twists and turns I come across if I`m stuck. This was one of them. Thanks for the tip Finnster. Still not sure how to open a new `Tab` and then close it though? I use windows 10 and up in the very top left hand corner, there are two box icons. One is `see all your tabs` and the other says `set these tabs aside`....

Assuming you have your web browser on your task bar and your on a web page you can just right click your browser on the task bar and select open new window and can use alt+tab to cycle between them.

ps you probably wana set it to show all your tabs those appear at the top of the browser and you can open new ones quite easy by clicking on the + icon on the right side of your last tab

Yes, my browser icon is on my taskbar Finn. Never bothered having multiple tabs or screens open at the same time though so not sure I`ll cope unless I practice it a few times! How the hell do others manage with this? I imagine many people will give DWP a mobile number to have their code sent to so they don`t have this issue, but if the code is sent to an email address (in my case) it means leaving the UC application page to retrieve this code from my email account meaning I need to switch to my email account to open the email DWP sent me.

No wonder UC is causing panic up and down the country....

.

Dont see the Problem, I have 4 to 5 Windows open 99% of the time im on the Forum, and Stream a Radio service at the same time, So when I post new content I can click between content and the forum with ease, Also have to have the Administrator panel open, and switch between them all constantly.

Its a good job we have such a good crew on here to help people who dont know much about computers, on other forums I have been on such questions would get the poster ripped to bits, Tis such a nice place on here. B)

Thing is Paul I CAN work a computer, just never had the requirement to have umpteen tabs open at the same time! What is the easiest way to do this in your opinion? Remember, I use windows 10 1803 build. So some tab options may be more related to older windows versions, I`m not too sure. What Finnster suggested I will try, but I also note that I have two icons in the upper left hand corner of my screen that allows me to `see all your tabs`? So if I open a second tab (my email page) I can `set it aside` and open it using this little icon in the top corner.

And once I open a new tab, how do I close it again, rather than `set it aside?

I Have my "Tab" bar at the bottom of my screen, But you can put your toolbar wherever you want, my one is at the bottom for convenience,
I then open web sites + Forum that I wish to use, all pages remain open on bottom toolbar, and I click to open as I want, it then shuts down to a icon when I click on the next page I want. I have found that when streaming Radio & using Admin section a 2nd PC is very helpful, but my 2nd PC is often tied up with Video Work,
Dam need a 3rd PC
But my set up is a bit more then what most members on here would need.

Paul, is this `tab` bar called the Task View? Snip from your image:

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

I have the same icon at the bottom of my screen too (in the task bar)….so for example, when I have the welfare central screen open and I click on this Task View, what does it do? You then said the following:

Okay, so my Task View icon is in the same place as yours. So what do I do next? Say I wanted to open my gmail account while looking at the welfare central screen?

I just open a new tab with the + at the top and just click on the one I want.
During job search, usually use tabs for vacancies that look like might be suitable and then go through them. Really simple. Just try.
Added a snip from top of my screen that shows my tabs.

Well seems the insert image file isnt working

Thanks Finnster and moogs, appreciate your tips on this. Feel a bit daft to be honest as tabs or opening more apps is not something I ever dabbled with (not sure why) but I can see why being able to click a task view or a + sign can bring up other sites I may want to re-visit without leaving the screen I`m currently on!

Will have a go with the top of the screen `+` icon and see how I get on. I looked at a YouTube video relating to the Task View that Paul was using and it opens pages that I views that day or previously? Still not sure how best to utilise it all but I suppose I will just have to have a dabble and learn from it. I only really want to be on one screen (like the UC claim screen for example) and be able to access my email account while I`m still ON the UC screen without having to leave the page because I want this code they send to go to an email address and not a mobile phone text. So if I can just get that right, I`ll be a happy bunny!

Still not sure if I`m doing it correctly. I clicked on the + plus (new tab) sign but then as moogle suggested, I copy & pasted my gmail sign in page and pasted that into the search box and managed to (I think?) save it? But when I click `new tab` again, it`s not there?

I`m obviously managing to open the `new tab` section but from there, I`m not sure what the hell I`m supposed to see or do? It doesn`t seem to be saving anything I`ve visited?

are you closing it down to get back to the first tab ? coz you can just click between the tabs and keep them open at the same time

should be able to get in to your gmail via your bookmarks id think if you have it there if not just add it

or if like me you have fire fox you can make google your home page and add have it as one of your top sites so every time you open a new tab you are showen a list of your top 16 most visited sites or you can even customize it to the ones you specifically want

No; Tab Page Control is Icon shown in this screen shot, You can just see Mouse arrow on it as well, This is my Main Access to web pages I need to access.

Haven`t got the foggiest idea what I`m doing with this guys to be honest. If I`m supposed to open the + sign and add something to it, or bookmark a page, are these different things or what? I have a Favourites list with many websites saved to it, but if I`m on here for example and then click on one of the websites on my favourites list, that webpage appears and this one disappears, so if I minimised THIS screen to open my favourites list, my browser would close altogether! All I really want to do is have my email page open or minimised) to be able to log into it to receive any code I`m sent and then once I have it, I can close the email page down.

Microsoft seem to have these features set up but they don`t really explain very well the simplest way to open something or to best use it. Especially for someone like me who never opens other tabs or apps while I`m on one particular screen. Never had the need to. Until now.

Paul, that`s the Chrome browser Icon you have on your taskbar. I use Windows Edge browser and if I minimise a screen, I know how to hover the arrow over it to bring it up again. But I need to know how to open the other page first and have it easily placed like that while I`m on the main screen.

Here is what I see in the top left corner of my screen:

This image is hidden for guests. Please log in or register to see it.

The + when you hover over it says - New tab (Ctrl + T)
The `down` arrow next to it says- Show tab previews

The two box icons to the very left are `see all your tabs and `set these tabs aside`. When I click on there, there are no tabs or saved sites? I visited my gmail account earlier but it doesn`t seem to be remembering sites I have visited? But I`m not sure whether I`m supposed to save them in some way? Totally bamboozled!

Maybe you could ask the jobcentre if they have any courses on computing...? :silly:

Seriously though, like others have said I have several tabs open whenever browsing. For instance when visiting here, any threads I wish to look at I right click title of that thread to open in new tab, then I work my way through all those threads. Try it, CoD, and it might help you understand more how tabs work and make browsing online a much better/easier experience...

Or, the magic of google can come to your rescue...

Now there`s an idea! Thanks for the link Tarquin. See, I DO have that `+` New Tab thing on my top bar anyway, so I was hoping it would just be a case of clicking on the + sign and then choosing another webpage that would open up and I could minimise it and then open it when required? I`m obviously missing something so will go away and hide for a few hours and have a dabble!
