Hi all,

I was in the job centre recently and heard an interesting bit of gossip from two different advisors, which was then confirmed by someone else. They all reckon UJM is being scrapped in June/July. :woohoo: :woohoo:

If true, that means no more UJM (YAY!!), but the problem is what will they replace it with? However, this raises the question of WILL they replace it. Given the disaster it's been, the millions a year it probably costs to maintain and the fact that many employers don't bother with it , I wonder if they'll bother replacing it or just let jobseekers do what they should have been doing all along - checking decent jobsites.

So there we go. Hopefully good news, but as always with the tories, beware what comes next.

I had a conversation with a work coach several weeks ago and was surprised how little the front line staff seem to know about what’s going on re UJM now that they're pushing this UC Journal.

She confirmed that as claimants move on to UC keeping the Journal that’s integrated in with UC accounts is also being pushed. She claimed that the Journal does more than UJM and will even do it better once it’s been fully developed. She reckons that what it’s capable of doing is being improved upon all the time.

She said that although the use of UJM is not now being pushed as hard in UC Claimant Commitments by the more progressive coaches who have been through UC training, she reckons it will still continue to be used while ever claimants continue to be on the legacy benefits. This means, unfortunately, that those of us still on the good old Jobseekers Allowance will have to put up with UJM for a while yet.

Some of the more ruthless coaches continue to push and encourage its use while it’s there because a lot of their work has become dependent on it. It is anticipated that UC will be fully rolled out to everybody by 2021, by which time UJM will have become virtually redundant. So, you’re right, a cruel system is being phased out.

What’s going to replace it? By the sound of it, something capable of being much worse.

I was listening to the evidence given by the boss of Facebook last week in the United States and was alarmed to hear that Facebook is capable of tracking users’ movements and activities on their phones and computers even when said users aren’t logged in. Add to that the fact that Cambridge Analytica and other Cambridge based technology companies already have apps that can do the same and are actively developing more. Add to that the Tory links to those sorts of companies.

Keep an eye out for any DWP contracts being issued to sub-let to such companies in the near future the management and control of the UC Journal as its’ use grows.

In the meantime you are right to be aware, in fact, be afraid, be very afraid.

This is good news Gibbon, thanks for passing on your Welfare Central intelligence! I have a UJM account but hate it, as most claimants do, so if it meant banishing it from my laptop I would sleep better at night knowing it`s cookies were also banished. But we know the UC Journal will inevitably be it`s successor, so who knows. Not sure it`s even mandatory to have a UC journal either? What about people who don`t have a home based computer and had to check their journal for alerts or emails? No doubt this would create a queue at the Libraries and free computer access areas. Some of which don`t exist in many areas.

I read that too moogs. Perhaps DWP are looking to save money and changed their minds re-contracting UJM out from Monster to Adzuna? Although I`m inclined to believe what Gibbon overheard when in the job centre because they (work coaches) wouldn`t be discussing it otherwise, so there must be a move on.

So is UJM actually now contracted to Adzuna (as from April 1st?) but the government have now changed their minds?

Some further details on UJM and Adzuna from FOI website

The contract was awarded under the GCloud 9 Framework, and following the process set out at www.gov.uk/guidance/g-cloud-buyers-guide. When we run a G-Cloud
exercise all the information is accessed through a standard service offering. There are
no specifications or adverts published for suppliers to bid against. Instead, there is a
search undertaken to identify the suppliers, and a review of the service offerings of each
supplier is undertaken.

A copy of the final contract will be made available in Contract Finder, within 90 days of
contract award. Section 22 of the Freedom of Information Act exempts this information
from disclosure at this time. This is because the information is intended for publication at
a future date.

The suppliers involved in this exercise were;
• Adhunter Limited
• Monster Worldwide Ltd
• Hireserve Limited
• PDMS Limited Professional Data Management Services Limited

I always thought that cloud 9 was, like cloud cuckoo land, a mythical place where deluded people lived. It’s not surprising that the DWP has found a place there.

Thanks BB. So according to this, Adzuna will (or should) be ruining UJM by this summer? Yet our mole Gibbon heard otherwise. Something strange going on me thinks. Why would DWP contract a company, sign on the dotted line and then withdraw it? But then again, the Conservative party are the party of U-turns but I can`t see how they would not be taken to task by Adzuna if their juicy contract was to be pulled from under them having just agreed to run it?

This is not inconsistent with what Gibbon reports

Adzuna are committed to re-vamping UJM, which means the UJM that we know and love will be no more, scrapped, if you like.

So Adzuna will still be running UJM on behalf of DWP as DWP have contracted (paid) them to do so? Or am I missing the point here that DWP have allowed Adzuna to take over the reigns of UJM but DWP will have no further dealings with it? Meaning, people can still use and have an account with UJM but not through DWP? I`m just trying to understand why DWP would contract Adzuna to run UJM but they plan to ditch it?

This notice has just appeared on UJM

Universal Jobmatch will be replaced by the Find a job service on 14 May 2018.

Important: If you have an existing Universal Jobmatch account it will not move to the new service.

Save any information you want to keep, like your CV, cover letters and application history by 17 June 2018.

So should I log in and remove my CV`s and Cover letter and just let the thing die a death? I have these saved elsewhere anyway.

I also wonder if DWP will be asking customers to use this new Find A Job service instead or just let people use any job sites without tying us to one specific tool?

Just saw this today when I logged into Universal Jobmatch:

Does anyone know more about this?

My account states the same osris. I don`t know anymore than this at the moment myself but it looks like this `Find a Job` website might be it`s replacement but whether it will be another UJM under a different banner remains to be seen. I`m wondering what will happen with the username and password we have for our existing UJM account?

I just saw this in another forum:

"The tool will continue to provide jobseekers with the ability to search for work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Jobseekers will be able to create an account to which they can uploadicon CVs, create relevant email alerts and view their previous account activity. Changes to the user registration process will see a simpler, more modern way of accessing and managing job seeker accounts."

I wonder will this give dwp access to your account without your consent.

Eg: will they remove the tick box for access?

I just don't trust them. Every time there's a change something gets worse. Why have they kept it so secret for so long? We should've known really as they haven't been pushing the Universal Jobmatch site on to people anymore.
Make sure all your past job applications are saved in a folder on your email, otherwise there's no proof that you've been looking for work!
