The article was bemoaning the fact that the charity sector had been out muscled by the corporates. Shaw Trust being the only "charity" to make the shortlist.

Personally, I find the divide increasingly irrelevant. Whatever their initial motivation and intent, a hierarchical organization operating in an increasingly deregulated capitalist market must surely inevitably, just like the corporates, place it's own survival above all other interests.

I am aware that old fashioned, ground up, non exploitative local charities do exist and am glad to hear you have found one you are comfortable in supporting. I have a very active but totally volunteer run and staffed local charity I do all I can for. But I do find it difficult to see how the effect of any organisation involved in the slave business is anything other than malevolent, whatever their original motive or intent,

Unless they are running a 21c version of the underground railway or an enamelware factory in Kraków perhaps.

Not doubting your judgement B, t's just difficult to understand.

Not dramatic as the underground railroad, but to me they were saviours.
I had to convince them to accept me against their judgement.

I simply saying that some consideration should be reserved for charities like the one that rescued me, that did accept workfare to help someone, rather than purely exploit.
While I was with them, I was never forced to anything and kept my own time, nor I was stressed by being afraid of been reported if I did not present myself.
I prepared the attendance sheets and I never had any reminder of the weakness of my position.

In the other site, the one I managed to escape, people were treated (badly) as workers and denounced if they were late or did not work hard enough, while forced to sweat in unhygienic and H&S hazards .
